A new exhibit is here! Take a peek at some of the rare books featured.
The Rare Book Collection includes about 10,000 titles, ranging from books and magazines published before 1900 to limited editions and author-inscribed copies. The oldest known book in the collection dates to 1537.
The collection covers a wide range of subjects, with a stronger focus on classic literature, historical works, and French studies.
These fragile materials require carefully controlled temperature and humidity to preserve them for future generations. Poor storage conditions can contribute to mold growth, paper distortion, flaking ink, leather deterioration, and pest infestations.
By preserving these rare books, we protect their words, craftsmanship, and the ideas and history they carry, allowing future generations to explore and learn from the past.
Visit the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room in Dupré Library to explore our rare books exhibit and discover the history, cultures, and people they reflect.
