KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE: AMENDMENT NO. 10

Amendment No. 10 addresses property tax exemptions for blighted or derelict properties that have been rehabilitated.

A YES vote would authorize an optional property tax exemption for qualifying rehabilitated properties and require the Legislature to establish the definitions, conditions and procedures for administering it.

A NO vote would keep the current law, which does not provide this specific exemption.

The amendment itself does not establish the amount or duration of the exemption. Those details would be determined through legislation.

Election Day is November 3, 2026.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE: AMENDMENT NO. 9

Amendment No. 9 addresses the income limit for the Special Assessment Level, which โ€œfreezesโ€ the assessed value of a qualifying homestead.

A YES vote would increase the maximum adjusted gross income from the current income limit of $102,700 to $150,000, allowing more otherwise-eligible homeowners to qualify.

A NO vote would keep the current income limit of $102,700, subject to annual inflation adjustments.

The Special Assessment Level is available to certain qualifying homeowners, including individuals age 65 or older, certain veterans with service-connected disabilities and individuals who are permanently and totally disabled.

Election Day is November 3, 2026.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE: AMENDMENT NO. 6

Amendment No. 6 concerns an additional property tax exemption for qualifying seniors age 65+.

A YES vote would authorize parishes and municipalities to ask their local voters to approve an additional age-based exemption for homeowners who are at least 65, receive the homestead exemption and qualify for the Special Assessment Level (โ€œfreezeโ€).

A NO vote would keep the current homestead exemption and Special Assessment Level (โ€œfreezeโ€) provisions without creating this additional exemption option.
Statewide approval would not automatically establish the exemption in Lafayette Parish. It would first require approval through a separate local election.

Election Day is November 3, 2026.

KNOW BEFORE YOU VOTE: AMENDMENT NO. 2

Amendment No. 2 addresses how a local taxing authorityโ€™s maximum authorized millage rate is affected when it chooses to levy a lower rate.

A YES vote would allow a taxing authority to keep millage rates below the voter approved maximum without the need to periodically raiseโ€”or โ€œroll forwardโ€โ€”the rate simply to preserve the maximum approved by voters

A NO vote would keep the current rules, under which continuing to levy a lower rate may reduce the taxing authorityโ€™s maximum authorized rate in future years.

This amendment would preserve the authority to adjust the rateโ€”it would not automatically increase the millage rate.

Election Day is November 3, 2026.
