The Finish Line Is in Sight!

If you've driven by the LaGrange County Innovation Center in the last few days, you've probably noticed some BIG changes outside! A brand-new roof is in the works and nearly complete, and that overgrown landscaping is officially GONE!

The progress hasn't slowed down inside either!
Since our last update, flooring has started going in throughout the building, interior doors are being installed, and crews are busy with trim work, paint, and all of those finishing touches that are making the space feel less like a construction project and more like the Innovation Center we've been envisioning.

It's hard to believe that in just a couple of weeks, we'll be watching the final pieces come together and preparing for the big move, and we are bringing our friends at the LaGrange County Chamber of Commerce with us! After months of sharing construction photos, it's pretty exciting to say: we're almost there.

We can't wait to welcome you inside and show you what we've been building for LaGrange County.

Stay tuned—Grand Opening information is coming soon!

New Training Opportunities Are Coming to LCIC!

One of the things we're most excited about as we prepare to open the LaGrange County Innovation Center is the opportunity to bring more training and professional development right here to LaGrange County.

We're kicking things off in partnership with Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) with two hands-on Microsoft Excel workshops this November and December!

Basic Excel Skills | November 19 | 8:30 AM–4:30 PM
Designed for those looking to build a strong foundation in Excel, including navigation, basic calculations, built-in functions, worksheet formatting, and printing skills.

Intermediate Excel Skills | December 10 | 8:30 AM–4:30 PM
Ready for the next step? This class will dive into logical and lookup functions, tables and charts, sorting and filtering data, and pivot tables.

Both workshops are $250 per person and will be held right here in LaGrange at the new Innovation Center. Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged!

We're excited for LCIC to become a place where our local businesses and workforce can learn new skills, build connections, and grow—and these are just the beginning of the training opportunities we hope to bring to the space.

We're excited to continue our Board Member Spotlight Series by highlighting board member, Terry Martin!

Terry has spent more than four decades serving the people of LaGrange County. He and his wife, Tammy, moved to the county in 1984 after Terry graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy. They raised their two children here, both of whom attended Westview High School, and LaGrange County has been home ever since.

After beginning his career with the Indiana State Police, Terry joined the LaGrange County Sheriff's Office in 1991. He spent the next 25½ years with the department, including eight years serving as LaGrange County Sheriff. His commitment to public service continued when he was elected County Commissioner, a role he has held since 2015 and will complete at the end of this year after 12 years of service.

Terry's involvement in the community extends well beyond his professional roles. Over the years, he has served as a 4-H leader in shooting sports, been involved with Horse & Pony and its board, coached Little League baseball, and participated in numerous other programs throughout the county.

Throughout his career, Terry has remained committed to one thing: making LaGrange County a better place to live and raise a family. That experience, perspective, and deep commitment to our community make him a valuable member of the LCEDC Board.

We're grateful for Terry's many years of service to LaGrange County and for the time and leadership he continues to share with LCEDC. Thank you, Terry!

We talk a lot about economic development—but what does that actually look like day to day?

Some days, it’s sitting down with an existing business to talk through an expansion. Other days, it’s helping an entrepreneur figure out where to start, connecting an employer with a workforce resource, working on housing or community development, helping navigate incentives, implementing pieces of our Comprehensive Plan, or walking through the Innovation Center as we get closer to opening the doors.

And sometimes, it’s simply answering the phone and helping someone figure out who they need to talk to.

That's one of the most important roles we play. LCEDC serves as a central point of contact for economic development in LaGrange County, and you don't need to have a multimillion-dollar project to reach out to us.

If you're a business owner, entrepreneur, employer, developer, or someone with an idea for our community and you're not sure where to start—start with us.

Some of the most valuable economic development work we do starts with a simple question: How is business?

Through our Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) efforts, LCEDC is regularly meeting with employers throughout LaGrange County to listen, learn, and better understand what they need to be successful—not just today, but five, ten, or twenty years from now.

Those conversations help us identify challenges with workforce, infrastructure, housing, training, expansion, regulations, and more. Sometimes we can connect a business directly with a resource or partner. Other times, hearing the same concern from multiple employers helps us recognize a larger issue that needs attention and advocate for change.

BR&E is about building relationships before there's a problem and making sure our existing businesses know they have someone in their corner.

Our local businesses are the foundation of LaGrange County's economy, and their long-term success matters to all of us.

If we haven't visited your business lately—or ever—we'd love to change that! Give LCEDC a call at 260-499-4994 or follow the link to set up a visit:

Art & Economic Development: More Connected Than You Might Think

What does art have to do with economic development? Quite a bit!

Economic development isn't only about jobs and businesses. It's also about creating communities where people want to live, visit, invest, and put down roots—and art plays an important role in making that happen.

Public art, murals, performances, creative spaces, and community events add character to our towns and help create a sense of place. They give residents something to be proud of, attract visitors, support local businesses, and contribute to the quality of life that helps communities attract and retain talent.

For LaGrange County, investing in quality of place is part of investing in our economic future. Businesses need great communities to call home, and employees want to live somewhere they feel connected to.

Art helps tell the story of who we are—and creating places people love is an important part of building a strong economy.

Community development IS economic development.
