THE YELLOW ROSE CAMPAIGN
The Yellow Rose Campaign is a fire-service initiative dedicated to raising awareness of first responder mental health, reducing the stigma surrounding emotional and behavioral health concerns, and connecting first responders with support, training, and peer resources.
In 2018, the Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs launched the campaign and encouraged fire departments across the state to take the Yellow Rose Pledge—affirming their concern and compassion for the well-being of their fellow firefighters and first responders.
Firefighters, EMS personnel, law enforcement officers, dispatchers, and other first responders regularly witness traumatic events and experience stresses that can remain long after the emergency is over. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness. It takes strength to speak up, check on one another, and seek support when it is needed.
The yellow rose serves as a reminder that:
🟢You are not alone.
🟢It is okay to ask for help.
🟢Mental health is just as important as physical health.
🟢We must continue looking out for one another—both on and off duty.
At Venice Township Fire Department, we support efforts to break the stigma surrounding first responder mental health. We encourage everyone to check in with their friends, coworkers, and fellow first responders. A simple conversation can make a meaningful difference—and may even save a life.
If you or someone you know is struggling or experiencing a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
Take care of yourself. Take care of each other. No one should have to carry the weight alone.
