Lake Benton Public Library Its Beginning —
Lake Benton Library first opened its doors April 26, 1935, at the city hall and was open only two hours a week.

"The Lake Benton Public Library’s mission is,
to enrich lives, build community, and foster success
by bringing people, information, and ideas
together in a respectful manner" However, the library actually had its beginnings with the Excelsior Federated Women’s Club which began in 1929. The first books and magazines in the library were donated and collected by the Excelsior Club. During the early years of the library,

it was funded by donations given at silver teas and from monetary gifts. In 1958 the library received funds from the city. The library joined the Plum Creek Library System October 2, 1989. Additional Library activities include Adult Book Club on the first Monday of every month,

Friday Morning Fun (story-time) at 10:00 AM., Fiber Guild on every Tuesdays at 2:00

In 2014 Carl and JoAn Burk donated the construction of a patio at the back of the library

in memory of Jack Burk, Carl's brother and Lake Benton advocate.

Here is what's "NEW" this week at your library. In case you can't make it by 5pm today, Friday, remember we are open Saturday 9-12.

We've put new books out. Stop by to get your favorite checked out so you can cozy up with a book and watch the rain.

Fly beautiful butterflies! We are releasing them so they can do what they naturally need to do. We had another new butterfly leave her chrysalis this morning. If you stop by anytime this next week you should be able to see a monarch. What I noticed yesterday, when the kids were watching them the monarchs would fully spread their wings. And fully spread, they are large and absolutely beautiful!
