The Calcasieu Cattlemen's Association will host their Annual Membership meeting this fall on Thursday, November 12th at the Chalkley room at Burton Complex in Lake Charles. There will be a social event at 5:30 p.m. and time to view vendor booths and the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be a guest speaker on the new invasive species Pasture Mealy Bug and Asian Long Horn Tick. The LSU AgCenter is conducting a study to better understand how homeowners make decisions about resilient home improvements, particularly roofing upgrades. The information collected will help us identify the costs, barriers, information needs, and incentives that influence these decisions and improve the resources available to homeowners. We need your help. Would you be willing to take a survey to contribute to the study?

The survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, you may choose to enter a drawing for a $50 gift card.

🌾 Southwest Louisiana Farm Finance Workshop 🌾
Farm finances matter now more than ever. Join the LSU AgCenter on September 10, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. at the Welsh Community Center for a hands-on workshop designed to help producers improve financial decision-making and profitability.
Topics include rice and crawfish production budgets, breakeven analysis, farm decision tools, market outlook, and farm program projections. Producers at all experience levels are encouraged to attend, and spouses are welcome.

A big congratulations goes out to Yolanda Jones who was named nutrition educator of the year for the LSU AgCenter EFNEP Program. Yolanda is a member of the Calcasieu Extension staff and we are very proud of her accomplishments and for being recognized across the state for her work with youth and adults in Calcasieu Parish.
