Clark Atlanta University was born from freedom.

Atlanta University was founded in 1865 — the same year the last enslaved people in America learned they were free. From that moment, our founders believed that liberation without education was unfinished work. Clark College followed in 1869. In 1988, two HBCUs rooted in that same conviction became one.

Today, on Juneteenth, we honor what our founding knew to be true: freedom is just the beginning. Education is how we carry it forward.
Happy Juneteenth from the Clark Atlanta University family. ❤️🖤

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, a day of remembrance, reflection, and a celebration of freedom.

Juneteenth marks the date June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Texas learned they were free, making it a significant milestone in American history. We encourage residents to take time to learn, reflect, and participate in community events that honor the legacy and contributions of African Americans.

Happy Juneteenth from Marlboro County Government ❤️
