When you can, charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outdoors, and never near exits. These batteries store a lot of energy, and if one fails, a fire can grow fast.

Give big batteries some space. 🔥🚫

If your device gets very hot, swells, smells strange, leaks, smokes, or makes popping or hissing sounds, stop using it right away. A damaged battery can overheat and start a fire.

If you notice any of these warning signs, move the device away from anything flammable and call 911. The Lake Forest Fire Department is here to help keep our community safe.

Trust your senses. Stay safe. 🔥🚫

October is Fire Prevention Month! 🔥

Stick with the cord and charger that came with your device, or one approved by the manufacturer. Off-brand chargers may skip key safety standards, and the wrong charger can damage your battery and raise the risk of fire.

Charge smart. Stay safe. 🔥🚫

This October, we're putting fire safety front and center. It's Fire Prevention Month! 🧯

Charge your devices on a hard, flat surface like a table, desk, or bare floor. Charging creates heat, and beds, pillows, and couches can trap it and block airflow, which can cause a battery to overheat.

Keep it cool. Keep it safe. 🔥🚫

Our crews recently took time at the training tower to sharpen their skills, working through ladder operations, ventilation, and coordinated fireground operations. 🔥🪜

Opportunities like this give firefighters the chance to practice in realistic conditions, strengthen teamwork, and continue building the skills they rely on when the call comes in. 🚒

Twenty-five years ago, countless lives were forever changed. For many, September 11, 2001, remains a memory deeply etched in time. For others, it is a moment in history they have only come to know through the stories of those who lived it.

Today, we had the privilege of honoring the lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the brave men and women who answered the call without hesitation.

Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the unity that followed.

We will never forget.

As you kick off the holiday weekend, here are a few safety reminders from the Lake Forest Fire Department:

🍔 Grilling: Keep grills away from railings, overhanging branches, and building sides to prevent structure fires - and never leave a grill unattended while it's in use.

🏖️ Water Safety: Always provide close adult supervision around water. Pool noodles, floaties, and water wings aren't safe flotation devices - use U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets for inexperienced or weak swimmers.

☀️ Sun & Heat: Apply SPF regularly, stay hydrated, and take breaks in the shade to beat the summer heat.

Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, relaxing, and memorable Labor Day weekend!

🍂 Fall… is that you? 👀

Hello, September! While the calendar may say fall is on its way, the weather clearly hasn’t gotten the memo yet. ☀️😅

As we slowly inch our way toward cooler temperatures, changing leaves, and sweater weather, we have a couple of milestones to celebrate!

Happy Anniversary to our September crew:
🎉 FF/PM Russell Kluchka — September 10 - 9 years!
🎉 FF/PM Nova Sinskul — September 26 - 2 years!

Thank you both for everything you do and for another year of dedication to our team! Here’s to another great year — and hopefully some cooler weather soon! 🍁👏
