It's Water Wednesday!

Water is local, but water planning is regional.

Communities grow. Weather changes. Infrastructure ages. Demand increases. That is why long-term water planning matters.

BWA works to support reliable water service for our member cities today while also planning for future needs.

The work happening now helps protect the water supply for homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, industry, and future generations.

It's Water Wednesday!

What is blending?

In some communities, BWA treated surface water may be blended with city well water before it reaches customers.

Blending is one way cities manage their local water supply using more than one water source.

BWA’s role is to provide treated wholesale water to member cities. Each city then manages how that water moves through its own system.

It is all part of a connected water supply network.

Imagine a day without water. Now imagine what that means beyond your kitchen sink.

Restaurants couldn’t prepare meals or wash dishes. Hospitals would face serious challenges caring for patients. Firefighters would lose a critical resource.

Water helps keep our entire community healthy, safe, and working.

This "Imagine a Day Without Water" Day, BWA invites you to appreciate the people, treatment facilities, pipelines, and planning that make reliable water possible.

It's Water Wednesday!

Why do cities use storage tanks?

Storage tanks help cities manage their water supply throughout the day.

Water use changes from hour to hour. Mornings, evenings, hot weather, emergencies, and community growth can all affect demand.

Storage tanks help keep water available when people need it most.

BWA delivers treated water to member city storage tanks, and from there, each city manages delivery to its customers.

It's Water Wednesday!

Why does water need to be treated?

Natural water sources can contain dirt, minerals, organic material, and microorganisms. Even water that looks clear still needs to be properly treated and tested before it becomes part of the public water supply.

Water treatment helps remove unwanted particles, disinfect the water, and protect public health.

At BWA, treating water is one of the most important ways we serve our member cities and the communities that depend on them.
