The racing gets the spotlight. The people behind it make it possible.

Across our venues this weekend, Olympic Authority staff, partners, volunteers and event teams have been working side by side - preparing courses, welcoming athletes and spectators, supporting media, directing traffic, keeping operations moving and delivering the countless details that go into an international event.

These photos capture just some of the people behind the WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series in Lake Placid.

To everyone putting in the hours representing our region so well - thank you. This is a team effort, and we’re proud of the team behind it.

We were pleased to be part of the SKI NY-PORA Expo in Lake Placid this week, bringing together ski area leaders, industry partners and vendors from across New York and Pennsylvania to exchange ideas, reconnect and learn about new approaches to safety, operations and guest service.

This year’s program included a powerful keynote from Kelly Brush, whose foundation works to inspire and empower people with spinal cord injuries while advancing ski racing safety.

Fall is shaping up to be a busy season for group business across New York’s Olympic venues, bringing conferences, special events, industry gatherings, and organized groups to the Olympic Region.

The Lake Placid Conference Center will welcome the SKI NY–PORA Expo on Sept. 21–23, followed by the first ADK EuroFest on Sept. 23–27. Open to the public, ADK EuroFest celebrates European automotive culture in the Adirondacks, with its main show taking place Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Olympic Jumping Complex.

In October, Lake Placid will also welcome attendees for the New York State Highway Traffic Safety Symposium, Oct. 19–22.

Beyond these major gatherings, the team is supporting a full calendar of conferences, corporate retreats, motorcoach tours, school groups, and other organized visits across Olympic Authority venues.

Working in collaboration with Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism and regional partners, these gatherings help introduce new audiences to Lake Placid and the Olympic Region while supporting year-round visitation and use of Olympic Authority venues.

Last night in North Creek, the community marked the 125th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt’s historic “Night Ride to the Presidency,” with author and environmentalist Bill McKibben as the evening’s guest speaker.

North Creek’s history runs deep - from Roosevelt’s arrival at the train station in 1901 to the Snow Trains that helped launch skiing at the North Creek Ski Bowl in the 1930s and generations of recreation at Gore Mountain that followed.

The Olympic Authority was proud to join the community in celebrating the people, places and stories that have shaped this special part of the Adirondacks.
