Groundwater doesnโt stop at county lines. Neither should planning.
At a recent Board of County Supervisors meeting, a unanimous resolution was passed asking the Commonwealth of Virginia to formally include Prince William County in regional groundwater studies currently focused on Loudoun and Fauquier counties.
Why this matters:
๐ง Shared Geology - Prince William shares the same fractured-rock groundwater systems as our neighbors.
๐ง 16,000+ Homes - Thousands of mid-county and western PWC households rely heavily on private wells. What happens to the water on one side of a jurisdictional line directly impacts the other.
๐ง Protecting the System - This isn't about a water supply crisis. Itโs about getting the critical data and regional coordination we need to protect our water before a crisis happens.
From groundwater and private wells to the Occoquan Reservoir, water is one connected system. To protect it, we need to address complex challenges like upstream PFAS "forever chemicals" and rising salinity from road salt and household products.
Shared water requires a shared conversation. Letโs keep working to protect our drinking water source.
