Two members of the GNPS family have been honored as recipients of the Long Island School Hero award. ⭐ Congratulations to Mr. Reilly and Mr. Goldberg on this well-deserved recognition!

Mr. Reilly is a North Middle social studies teacher who also previously served as Dean of Students at NMS. Mr. Goldberg retired in June after nearly 25 years as Principal of Village School. They received their awards during a ceremony on October 19.

Mr. Reilly and Mr. Goldberg are among 29 individuals across Long Island to be recognized for creating safe, inclusive learning environments. "Our honorees remind us that real impact is not measured in statistics or applause, but in the single moment, single student, and single act of kindness that can alter a child’s path,” said Joe Salamone, founder and executive director of the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying. Congratulations!

Parkville prekindergarten students welcomed their fifth-grade Baker buddies for the first visit of the school year! Together, the students read a book, completed an art activity, played games, and told stories to their new friends.

This partnership between Baker and Parkville, now in its fourth year, began as a Shared Decision Making Committee initiative. During buddy visits, Parkville's youngest students learn from Baker’s oldest students, empowering fifth graders to serve as positive role models and mentors—fostering important social skills including empathy, kindness, cooperation, and sharing for all involved. Buddies engage in fun, age-appropriate activities such as reading, writing, and games that support learning and relationship-building.

Fifth grade classes at Saddle Rock are taking advantage of the sunny weather to investigate how the sun’s position in the sky affects shadows. Students headed outdoors to trace their shadows in the morning and returned in the afternoon to compare their length and direction. By observing these changes, students explored how Earth’s rotation causes the sun to appear to move across the sky throughout the day.

Fifth graders at Saddle Rock recently ventured to Commerce Plaza to learn all about economics! Commerce Plaza is a simulated business experience that provides students with an understanding of basic principles of economics. Students are able to participate in a hands-on work environment allowing them to act as retail operators, producers, and consumers. This real-world simulation helps students see how math, communication, and cooperation all come together in everyday life.
