๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE SAFETY MONTH ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿณ Keep fire safety on the menu!

The kitchen is one of the most important places to practice fire safety. A few simple habits can help prevent a cooking fire:

๐Ÿ‘€ Stay in the kitchen while frying, grilling, or cooking on the stovetop
๐Ÿ”ฅ Keep towels, oven mitts, paper products, and other flammable items away from heat
๐Ÿ‘• Avoid loose-fitting clothing around burners
๐Ÿ‘ง Keep children and pets away from hot cooking areas
๐Ÿšซ Never use water on a grease fire

If a fire starts and you cannot safely control it, get everyone out, stay out, and call 911.

๐Ÿ”ฅ FIRE SAFETY MONTH ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿšจ Smoke alarms save lives.

A working smoke alarm can give you and your family the warning you need to get out safely when a fire starts.

This week, the Lake View Fire District encourages everyone to take a few minutes to check the smoke alarms in your home:

๐Ÿ”‹ Test every smoke alarm
๐Ÿ  Make sure you have alarms on every level of your home and near sleeping areas
๐Ÿ“… Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Make sure everyone in your home knows what the alarm sounds like and what to do when it goes off

Donโ€™t wait for an emergency to find out an alarm isnโ€™t working.

The Lake View Fire District extends our heartfelt condolences to Tyler Schenckโ€™s family, friends, and loved ones, as well as his entire Seneca Hose Fire Company. Our thoughts are with everyone who knew, worked alongside, and served with Tyler during this incredibly difficult time.

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of one of our members, Tyler Schenck, who passed away in an accident last evening.

Tyler was not only a valued and respected member of our organization, but also a member of the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS, as well as a former member of Reserve Fire Company.

At approximately 2200 hours on August 22, 2026, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Vol. Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded and worked together to manage the incident.

Tyler was described by those who knew and worked alongside him as lovable, lighthearted, and a passionate EMS provider who genuinely cared about everyone he met. During his time serving in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a meaningful impact on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the people he served. His loss will be deeply felt throughout our public safety, fire, and EMS communities. Our deepest condolences go out to the Schenck family, Tylerโ€™s friends, and his fellow members during this incredibly difficult time.

We recognize that the sudden loss of a coworker and fellow first responder can affect each of us differently. Employees are encouraged to support one another and utilize the resources available to them. Confidential assistance is available through:

WNY Law Enforcement Helpline
(716) 858-COPS or (716) 858-2677
All calls are confidential.

Further details are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Erie County Sheriffโ€™s Office. We will provide additional information once it becomes available and appropriate to share.

๐Ÿš’ The Rising Cost of Firefighting ๐Ÿš’

Providing emergency services has never been more expensive. The cost of firefighter protective equipment, radios, breathing apparatus, and fire apparatus has increased dramatically over the past several years.

While costs continue to rise, our commitment to protecting the Southbridge community remains unchanged.
