Recently, Detectives Castellanete and Phidd-Anthony began their new roles in the Criminal Investigations Division. On their first day, they joined a long-standing tradition of wearing the “Robert Fields Tie.”
The tradition began after the retirement of Detective Robert Fields, one of the first Black detectives at LPD. When he retired in 1984, one of the distinctive ties he often wore was discovered in his desk. To honor his legacy, the division created a tradition requiring every new detective, regardless of rank, to wear the “Robert Fields Tie” on their first duty day.
Although the original tie was retired after his passing, his wife provided another to ensure the tradition would continue. Over the past 41 years, detectives have also contributed to the Robert Fields Tie Collection. Traditions always begin with someone, and we are truly grateful for Robert Fields and the legacy he left within our family of detectives.
Congratulations Detectives! 💙
