Lake Burton Development

Dear Lake Resident:

I want to take this opportunity to notify you that we will be canceling the normal Annual Winter Rule Curve Drawdown due to the continued modernization work at Burton Dam. The new Obermeyer Gates project is expected to start later this year, and the lake will remain at summer pool until this work is completed by early 2028.

Drought continues to affect the lake level on Lake Burton. Lower inflows from the Tallulah River have impacted the lake level over the past few months. We expect the lake to come back up as we continue to receive much needed rainfall this week headed into the fall and winter.

Please remember to receive a construction permit for new structures or for maintenance of existing structures, a construction application must be submitted to Georgia Power for approval. Applications must be reviewed and approved by Georgia Power before starting construction. These applications can be found on our website at www.georgiapower.com.

If you have any questions regarding this message or if we can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to call our office on 706-746-1450.

Sincerely,

Jeff Jackson

With Labor Day weekend coming to a close, we know many residents and guests will be enjoying the lake for the end of the summer season. If you chose to use swim buoys this season, please keep in mind swim buoys:

• Are permissible on GPC lakes between Memorial Day thru Labor Day only
• Maximum outreach of 50’ from shore or NO further than outreach of existing shoreline structure.
• May not impede normal boat navigation.
• Two swim buoys per residential lot.
• Any swim buoy that mimics a regulatory buoy (No Wake, No Boat, etc.) is prohibited and subject to removal upon discovery.
• Only GPC may install regulatory buoys—such as No Wake, No Boat, or other navigational markers—and only at the direction of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

Life Jacket Loaner Stations on GPC Lakes

Heading out on the water this Labor Day weekend? Don’t forget to wear a life jacket!

Georgia Power, in partnership with Georgia DNR, provides life jacket loaner stations around most of our campgrounds, boat ramps and beach areas across the state, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the water safely.

Forgot a life jacket? Have a guest who needs one? Have a kid who outgrew theirs?

Just borrow a properly fitted life jacket, wear it while you’re on the water, and return it to the station when you’re finished so someone else can use it.

Take a jacket. Wear it. Return it.

Help keep our lakes safe!
