September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month — a time to learn about small tests that help babies stay healthy.

Every baby should have a strong and healthy start in life. Newborn screening is a quick test done soon after birth. It looks for serious health problems that doctors can treat early—sometimes before any signs show up. Finding these problems early can save lives, help babies grow better, and give families comfort.

September is ! 👶💖

Here are a few simple steps that help keep your baby safe while they sleep:
✅ Place baby on their back for naps and bedtime
✅ Use a firm, flat crib or bassinet
✅ Keep baby’s sleep space free of pillows, blankets, and stuffed toys
✅ Make sure no one smokes around baby
✅ Keep baby cool, and don’t cover their head.

💡Tip: Make sure grandparents and all caregivers know your baby’s safe sleep routine too.

September is Newborn Screening Awareness Month, and we’re celebrating the simple test that saves thousands of lives every single year.

It’s a heel prick that checks for more than 30 serious but treatable health conditions. This screening gives babies the best chance at a healthy start by catching issues before symptoms even appear.

September is Whole Grain Month! Whole grains are packed with nutrients that fuel your family's growth. Unlike refined grains, whole grains keep the entire grain kernel—giving you more fiber, B vitamins, and minerals to keep you feeling full and energized.

Your WIC benefits cover whole grains like whole-wheat bread, brown rice, oats, corn tortillas, whole-grain pasta, and more! Talk with WIC staff for more information and for easy ways to include whole grains in your family’s diet.
