Happy book birthday to ANOTHER NAME FOR RED by Amber Blaeser-Wardzala
An intense story that circles around family, guilt and the real disappearances of young native women on the reservation. Middle Sister is hanging onto the hope that Older Sister will still come home. She disappeared after an argument with Middle Sister and the guilt and uncertainty is slowly destroying her. Rumors of Older Sister dating a white man and the arrival of John, a white man who is showing a creepy interest in Middle Sister may be connected or it is Middle Sister's way of trying to connect and understand Older Sister's state of mind. It is a dangerous game she is playing digging up information while trying to keep the strong connection to her people and customs. A beautiful debut that goes from tender family moments to complete chaos in a heartbeat as well as speaking to the very real problem of native women going missing and the authorities don't seem to care. Fans of Stephen Graham Jones and Chris Whittaker will find much to love here. 5 stars

Happy book birthday to MOTHSBLOOD by Lynn D. Jung
Not Asian enough for her family and not white enough for others, Larkspur Lee takes her shot at the top apprenticeship at a prestigious alchemy academy in Paris. Soon she is bumping elbows with the young heirs to old money, pharmaceutical and alchemist families and legendary immortal alchemists which is fine but Lark needs to make it on her own and stay away from the mentor who got her there. A death of one of the immortals and head of the school means chaos and everyone battling for the top seat and immortality. Old fashioned manipulation through male power, ancient cults that are not on the up and up as well as a young woman struggling to become great without losing her identity and life. Dark academia at its best with a famous cast of characters and perfect magical setting , this was an mesmerizing audiobook and a stunning debut. 4 stars

Happy book birthday to PECK & PECK by Bonnie Garmus
Batter has wanted to be a poet since he was a boy. When he lands a job at the most prestigious poetry journal in New York you would think he has won the lottery. But not all is what it seems at Peck & Peck as Batter discovers. Batter is a soft hearted ,gentle soul who gets tossed into the lion pit. He is on the lowest rung of the ladder making endless copies but that will change. Take one unsung hero, some cantankerous twin editors and a cast of eccentric characters and you have one clever, unique and delightful study of life and work. A work of perfect chemistry as only Bonnie Garmus could craft- this will be on many TBR lists. 4 1/2 stars

Happy book birthday to MYSTERY PLAY by Elizabeth Kostova
Revolving around the child of the main character in THE HISTORIAN but easily read as a standalone, MYSTERY PLAY is the same eerie mix of classic literature, old world horror and academic mystery. A potential monster or celebrated playwright/classic stage actor is resurrected Jay finds an ancient book in his mother's things and asks the advice of his mom's oldest friend. The mystery behind this text leads Jay down a rabbit hole of murders, shadowy people and danger to himself and anyone associated with the text. One side of the story is told from Jay's journal while the other is told through the journal and letters of an aspiring actress and her infatuation with a mesmerizing playwright in the late 1800's. The second half of the book takes us further back to ancient plays, secret societies and the immortal evil of Count Vlad Tepes (otherwise known as Count Dracula) and others like him. The mood is dark and shadowy, the writing is as if the classic Bram Stoker novel never ended and the presentation of letters, journal entries and research makes the reader feel part of the investigation. The perfect sequel to THE HISTORIAN and one that will delight those readers who have recommended and placed it in so many reader's hands.

Story time got a little more exciting at Lake Travis Community Library.

LTFR firefighters visited the library for Firefighter Story Time, where the librarian read a fire safety story, firefighters answered questions, and they spent time with some of our youngest community members.

Thank you to the Lake Travis Community Library for inviting us and to all the families who joined us. We had a great time making new friends and showing off our fire truck and equipment!

Happy book birthday to THE MEMORY OF BORROWED BOOKS by Meg Anderson
Claire is a librarian in the little town where she grew up. The library has been a place of finding oneself and losing oneself for many in the town but now the board has decided it is irrelevant as developers have come in waving money in their face. Anxious about the library's fate and sleepless she discovers a secret door that leads her to books about patron's forgotten memories. As she begins to piece together a mystery involving a broken friendship she will also rediscover her own forgotten memories that the library has kept safe. An ode to how much libraries mean to those who need them as well as how we often tap down feelings and bad memories instead of asking for help. A bit of whimsy in a very compassionate storyline, this will appeal to library lovers as well as readers of deeply emotional stories. 4 stars
