CDOT is preparing to start construction on major improvements on the US 6 and Wadsworth interchange, making it safer and more comfortable for drivers.

Built in the 1950s with a “cloverleaf” layout, this interchange will be rebuilt to include the following changes:
• Tight diamond configuration with one loop ramp remaining in the interchange’s northwest quadrant.
• Three of the interchange ramps to operate as intersections with Wadsworth.
• Remaining loop ramp to allow traffic traveling west on Sixth to exit onto southbound Wadsworth.
• All ramps lengthened to provide adequate acceleration and deceleration distances.
• Structurally deficient bridge over Wadsworth replaced.
• Widening Wadsworth under the interchange.
• Shared-use paths on the east and west side of Wadsworth to complete connections for pedestrians
and cyclists.
• Raised median in the center of Wadsworth to direct left- and U-turns.
• Additional noise walls to protect adjacent neighborhoods.

Yesterday, the Lakewood City Council recognized Indigenous Peoples’ Day with a proclamation honoring the history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples.

We also had the opportunity to officially welcome Jonathan Cain, Lakewood’s new City Manager!

I’m excited for this new chapter of leadership in Lakewood and look forward to working together to strengthen our community, build trust, and deliver results for our residents!

With Jeffco Public Schools officially starting on Wednesday, August 19th, the Lakewood Police Department is reminding all drivers to slow down and stay alert in our school zones.

To help keep our students safe as they head back to class, we are asking everyone to watch their speed and always follow all posted speed limits. Please be alert for students by paying extra attention at crosswalks and being on the lookout for children walking to and from school. Additionally, remember to stop your vehicle when you see lights flashing on a school bus, and do not start driving again until the red lights have completely stopped flashing.

Let's work together to make this a safe and successful school year for everyone in the community!

Meet Lakewood’s new City Manager, Jonathan Cain!

After a lot of interviews, questions, reference checks, and community and staff feedback, Jonathan stood out.

He knows Lakewood, loves Lakewood, and brings the energy, experience, and vision we need. I’m especially excited about his ideas around housing, sustainability, economic development, and revitalizing our key corridors.

Council will vote on his contract August 24, with an anticipated October start.

I’m excited to get to work with him and move Lakewood forward!

Lakewood City Council has announced it has selected Jonathan Cain as the city’s new city manager.

Cain impressed City Council with his dedication to the community and his ability to bring people together to build consensus. He showed he already has in-depth knowledge of numerous Lakewood issues and that he will prioritize building relationships, meeting people where they are and working with the community.

Denver Water has declared a Stage 1 drought
Stage 1 drought means Denver Water is asking customers to reduce their total water use (outdoors and indoors) by at least 20%, which will help stretch our water supplies and reduce the likelihood of increasing restrictions later this summer.

Lakewood and Jefferson County have an opportunity to lead by taking stronger action to reduce emissions and improve our air quality. Cleaner air takes commitment at every level, and there’s more we can do right here in our own community.

A new season of spiking ozone readings nearly guarantees Colorado will fail to attain EPA limits, again, and require new sanctions. A public health study shows the damage.
