Request for Proposals: Elevate & Gather
Transforming Our Ephrata Rooftop into Outdoor Gathering Space

At Good Samaritan Services, we believe healing and stability grow in places where people feel safe, welcome, and connected.

The Elevate & Gather project will transform our existing rooftop into a welcoming outdoor gathering space for the individuals and families we serve, a place for connection, community, and new possibilities. For the men, women, and children in our program, this kind of space can make a real difference: a place to enjoy the fresh air, share a meal, let kids play, or build relationships with volunteers and one another.

We are now seeking a qualified partner to help us bring this vision to life.

Project Scope:
• Convert an existing 2,200 sq ft flat roof into a functional outdoor living space
• Decking, railing and partial covering
• Architectural and structural engineering services included (design-build)

Requirements:
• Seeking one general contractor to manage the project from design through completion
• Prevailing wage applies. This project is funded by a government grant.
• Anticipated project start: 2027
• Proposal deadline: November 30, 2026

🏡For a child experiencing homelessness, home can be a motel room, a relative’s couch, a family shelter, a car, or somewhere they don’t know they’ll be tomorrow.

They often move from place to place and behind every move is a child trying to keep up with school, friendships, homework, and everyday life while navigating a level of uncertainty no child should have to face.

At Good Sam, we are working hard so families like these have the stability, support, and safety they need for a brighter future. ✨

🚨Some breaking Good Sam news …

This September, we had 8 individuals who moved out into their very own housing!

Each of these individuals came to us after facing homelessness or housing insecurity and with hard work, dedication, and courage, now have a place to call their own. 🏡🎉

That’s pretty incredible if you ask us!

Our volunteers have been busy in Phoenixville this fall! 🍂And each task they completed helped us love our neighbors facing homelessness a little better.

A big Good Sam thank you to:

🤝Johnson & Johnson who finished up some painting in our office in Phoenixville and cleaned out the kitchen and living room in our transitional housing!
🤝The crew from SEI Investments Company who helped kickstart a new flooring project at our single dads home and conquered some much-needed deep cleaning
🤝Students from Villanova University who stepped up to clean our office and beautify the gardens and parking lot.

Each group showed up with joy and excitement, and we are grateful for their helping hands and servant hearts! 🧡💙

A big round of applause for John! 👏

He has been working hard in our program and just THIS week reached one of his big goals: moving out into his very own apartment.

John came to us after experiencing homelessness and has steadily worked towards this goal. Now with his own apartment, he hopes to soon reunite with his young son and welcome him home.

This milestone deserves some celebration! 🎉 Tell him congrats in the comments!

JJ’s story is why personalized support and case management is so essential. 🤝

When JJ arrived at our Winter Shelter, she faced the added challenge of navigating homelessness as a deaf individual. Thankfully, our Lead Resource Coordinator, Janessa, was able to meet JJ where she was at, literally speaking her language through American Sign Language (ASL).

Through personalized case management in ASL, JJ could ask questions, understand her options, and access resources without the communication barriers she had faced for so long.

Together, they worked toward stability, including securing medication support. And soon, something life-changing happened: JJ was approved for permanent, affordable housing at the YWCA. 🏡👏

JJ’s story is just one example of how personalizing support is essential and why we believe in the power of seeing each person’s journey as unique.

What an incredible fair week! 🎡

Our community invests so much in Good Sam and our participants so we had to take some time giving back. Our staff loved volunteering at the Akron Lion’s Club, serving up some tasty food at this year’s Ephrata Fair! 🍔🍟

We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another! ❤️

We talk a lot about the importance of affordable housing, but have you ever thought about the importance of transportation? 🚗

For those working hard to reach stability, finding reliable transportation can be a key aspect of their journey to stability.

Without it, it can be hard to get to and from work, find affordable housing with access to public transportation, and reach important resources. Even a simple task like getting groceries can take on a whole different meaning.

At Good Sam, we are walking beside our participants daily, helping them find solutions to barriers like this one so they can regain stability and thrive. ✨
