For emergencies, call 9-1-1 The Antelope Valley CHP is dedicated to keeping each of our residents and visitors as safe as possible. We are committed to saving lives by preventing traffic collisions before they happen through education and enforcement efforts. Our traffic safety education programs are offered in local schools and at community events on a continual basis in an effort to educate the public. These educational programs combined with our enforcement efforts are designed to prevent collisions, thereby reducing the tragic loss of life and serious injuries caused by unsafe driving. Programs such as:

• Start Smart (a program for new teen drivers and parents);
• Every 15 Minutes (a program to raise awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence at local high schools)
• Impact Teen Drivers (a program for teens and their parents to address the dangers of driving reckless, distracted or while under the influence)
• Age Well Drive Smart (a program for senior drivers) are designed to educate the public and help reduce the number of tragedies caused by traffic collisions.
• Free child safety seat instruction/demonstrations for anyone who transports children younger than 8 years old or under 4’9” tall. The Antelope Valley Area is proud to be a thriving Explorer post which is designed for young men and women between the ages of 15 and 21 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. We also have an outstanding Senior Volunteer Program for members of our community who are 55 or older and would like to volunteer their time to assist CHP employees in the performance of their duties. We are very committed to our community and pride ourselves on the relationships we build and maintain.

TRAINING, TEAMWORK, AND A FIRST-PLACE FINISH!

The CHP Antelope Valley Area Explorers brought home a first-place victory!

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, our Explorers traveled to Bakersfield to participate in the 2nd Annual Explorer Competition at Ridgeview High School, where they earned 1st place in the Active Shooter scenario!

Throughout the competition, our Explorers were challenged to apply their training in realistic law enforcement scenarios requiring effective communication, teamwork, situational awareness, and sound decision-making under pressure.

This achievement is a testament to the countless hours of training, preparation, and dedication these young men and women have invested in developing their skills.

We couldn’t be prouder of our Explorers for representing the Antelope Valley Area and the California Highway Patrol with professionalism and determination. Congratulations on a well-deserved victory!

Interested in joining the next generation of law enforcement professionals?

The CHP Explorer Program offers young adults ages 15–20 an opportunity to gain firsthand experience in law enforcement while developing leadership, discipline, and teamwork skills.

It was an honor to welcome Assistant Commissioner Rodney Ellison and Chief Chris Margaris to the CHP Antelope Valley Area Office!

During his visit, Assistant Commissioner Ellison spent time with our personnel, discussing the Department’s mission, priorities, and vision for the future. His visit provided our team with an opportunity to hear directly from Department leadership and engage in meaningful conversation about the important work being done throughout our communities.

We appreciate Assistant Commissioner Ellison taking the time to visit the Antelope Valley Area and connect with our team. Thank you for your leadership, encouragement, and continued commitment to the men and women of the California Highway Patrol.

Weekend Recap 🚔🎃🎡

It was a great weekend of community engagement in the Antelope Valley!

The California Highway Patrol – Antelope Valley Area had the opportunity to attend the Trunk or Treat Car Show and Haunted Jailhouse event in Palmdale, as well as the Antelope Valley Fair. Our officers enjoyed meeting local families, handing out CHP goodies, taking plenty of photos, and spending time with some familiar faces and a few new ones!

Events like these give us the opportunity to connect with the communities we serve outside of our everyday enforcement duties and remind everyone that public safety is truly a team effort.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and helped make it a great weekend. Great times with a great community!

This morning, CHP Antelope Valley motor officers conducted targeted enforcement along San Francisquito Canyon Road, Elizabeth Lake Road, and Bouquet Canyon Road in response to community concerns regarding dangerous and reckless driving behavior during commute hours.

Throughout the operation, officers conducted numerous traffic stops for violations that place motorists and our community at risk. A total of 45 traffic citations were issued.

We understand mornings can be busy and getting to work on time matters, but getting there safely matters more. Plan ahead, leave a few minutes early, obey posted speed limits, maintain a safe following distance, and avoid taking unnecessary risks behind the wheel.

Your destination will still be there. Make sure you arrive safely.

CHP Antelope Valley will continue working to address community traffic concerns and promote safer roadways throughout the Antelope Valley.

August is Back-to-School Safety Month, and as students return to the classroom, we all have a role in helping them get there safely.

- Slow down and obey posted speed limits in school zones.
- Stop for school buses when required.
- Watch for children crossing the street, especially near schools and bus stops.
- Put the phone away and stay focused behind the wheel.
- Give students walking and riding bicycles plenty of space.

School zones will once again be busy with students, parents, school buses, and pedestrians. A few extra seconds of patience and caution can make all the difference.

Slow down. Stay alert. Help us keep every trip to and from school a safe one.

Palmdale to the San Fernando Valley… on pocket bikes?

CHP officers recently contacted four juveniles, ages 14, 15, 15, and 16, riding pocket bikes on Angeles Forest Highway. The group was attempting to make the trip from Palmdale to the San Fernando Valley.

While we can appreciate the sense of adventure, pocket bikes are not street legal and operating them on a public roadway creates a serious safety risk—especially on a highway where motorists may be traveling at significantly higher speeds.

All four juveniles were cited and the pocket bikes were impounded.

Parents and caregivers, please take a moment to talk with young riders about where these vehicles can legally and safely be operated. What seems like a fun ride can quickly turn into a dangerous situation.

Adventure is great. Just make sure it’s a safe and legal one.

Strengthening partnerships that help us better serve our community.

The CHP Antelope Valley Area recently welcomed Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman for a conversation with our personnel about the important partnership between law enforcement and prosecutors.

During an open Q&A, our officers had the opportunity to discuss case filings, courtroom processes, and ways we can continue working together to strengthen communication and improve the criminal justice process.

We appreciate District Attorney Hochman taking the time to meet with our team, answer questions, and provide valuable insight. Strong communication and collaboration with our justice partners help us better serve the communities of the Antelope Valley.

Driving too slow can be just as dangerous as driving too fast.

California Vehicle Code section 21654(a) requires vehicles traveling slower than the normal speed of traffic to use the right-hand lane. Remaining in the left lane while traveling significantly slower than surrounding traffic can lead to congestion, unsafe passing maneuvers, and an increased risk of crashes.

As part of our Summer Traffic Safety Initiative, CHP Antelope Valley will continue focusing enforcement on driving behaviors that create unnecessary hazards and compromise the safety of everyone on our roadways.

Help us keep the Antelope Valley moving safely: Keep right if you’re traveling slower than the normal flow of traffic, obey posted speed limits, and stay aware of the vehicles around you.

Drive responsibly. Be courteous. Arrive safely.
