Here at make717, we have all sorts of machines and gadgets in our makerspace that people tend to ask: "WTF?" (What’s That For?)

It might look like a sci-fi droid, but this media blaster (or “sandblaster”) is one of the most versatile finishing tools at make717!

Tucked in the Machine Shop right next to the paint booth, the Ruemelin DC2020 uses high-pressure air and abrasive media to transform your metal, glass, and 3D-printed projects.

The Holiday Season kicks off in a few weeks, and if you’re thinking about creating some custom gifts, we at make717 can show you how to use some of the many machines that can bring your ideas to life!

This Monday, 10/26, we have spaces open for our Inventables Carvey CNC orientation, where you can learn to make custom wood designs.

On Thursday, 10/29, you can learn how to print your own mug, hat, T-shirt, or coaster design in our Dye Sublimation orientation!

Today’s Spotlight is none other than Dan E., who utilized the make717 Wood Shop and made this gorgeous live edge wood bowl.

He brought this to life using the lathes, and gave it a generous amount of linseed oil and beeswax to give it the perfect finish. Well done, Dan!

Ever look around our make717 makerspace and ask yourself: "WTF?" (What’s That For?)
Our first such tool: A massive portable cutting station!

This clever portable unit is parked in our Fab Lab right by the Vacuformer. When unfolded, it expands into a huge, clean workspace equipped with a matching cutting mat.

It’s perfect for large paper layouts, poster design, fabric & textile cutting, and wrapping holiday gifts & big projects.
