Lander Firefighters Visit Local Classrooms for Fire Prevention Week; Open House Set for October 8
The Lander Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD) spent the week visiting local preschools, daycares, and classrooms to share important fire safety lessons with children throughout the community.
Firefighters taught students about safe charging, cooking safety, smoke alarms, home escape routes, campfire safety, and the dangers of playing with matches. Students also watched firefighters put on their protective gear and some received hands-on tours of firetrucks and ladder trucks.
“This week is a favorite among firefighters in our community. We get to provide education to children and help teach them lifelong fire safety lessons,” said Chris Johnson, City of Lander Airport and Fire Department Manager.
This year’s National Fire Protection Association theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.” The campaign focuses on safely using, charging, and disposing of lithium-ion batteries found in everything from phones to power tools.
“Lithium-ion battery safety is critical to preventing fires,” said LVFD Chief Eric Siwik. “We invite the entire community to our open house on Thursday, October 8, from 6–8 PM.”
The LVFD Open House will be held at the Lander Fire Hall, 430 Garfield Street, and will feature a live fire sprinkler demonstration, Region V Hazardous Materials trailer, Rocky Mountain Power power line safety demonstration, wildland firefighters, local law enforcement, Fremont County Emergency Management, the FBI, Wyoming Department of Family Services, and more.
LVFD will serve pulled pork sliders beginning at 6 PM while supplies last. Donations will be accepted.
As LVFD celebrates 125 years of service, the open house is also an opportunity to recognize generations of volunteer firefighters who have served Lander. Come learn about fire prevention, meet local first responders, and thank those who serve our community.
Anyone interested in joining LVFD is encouraged to stop by and learn more about becoming a volunteer.
