Greetings District 10!
These past two weeks have been busy, memorable, and insightful. Here is a quick recap of some of what I have been up to the past couple of weeks.
Events I attended included:
🔵the Sound Mind Sound Body (SMSB) Ribbon Cutting and Community Day event celebrating the reopening of their Community Engagement Center. It featured giveaways including free sneakers (thanks !), food, activities, and resources. Forgotten Harvest was there. Members of the Harper Woods football team were also there.
🔵the Michigan League of Conservation Voters Annual Detroit Gala fundraiser, this year presented by the Detroit Lions . It was great to catch up with environmental agencies, advocates, and celebrate awardees and the progress of advocating for Michigan's natural resources, people, and democracy.
🔵the BuildON () Detroit Youth and Democracy event at Wayne State University. Several of my fellow Reps and I served on a panel and spoke to our young people about service, voting, our work, and community. Students were registering to vote and planned to “Get Out The Vote” by writing postcards and canvassing to encourage civic responsibility. Students asked great questions and sparked interesting conversation. Students from HD-10 East English Village Prep were there and we were able to talk for a few minutes about their favorite BuildOn experiences.
🔵Sadly, a memorial for Ed Keelean, who was a longtime Grosse Pointe Democratic Club board member Grosse Pointe Democratic Club, community activist, and member of the Wayne County Board of Canvassers. Senator Hertel and I presented a tribute and are proud to honor his legacies of family, service, and patriotism.
🔵The ribbon cutting for the Harper Woods new community center in Salter Park. The City’s Parks & Rec department will be moving its offices there soon.
