As the Chair of the MDHHS budget on Human Services I appreciate providers inviting us to discuss their services and concerns. I recently toured Eagle Village with Director Amy Epkey and the team that help our most vulnerable children. There are a lot of issues with DHHS but, on this day we heard of good communications and some changes that providers were asking for.

I was able to attend the Addiction Treatment Services Art of Recovery event a few days ago. I was so impressed with the audience support. Some of the people in the audience shared how the organization has been so helpful in their recovery. Jim and his family shared their story of recovery that brought them to the area. Paula Lipinski, the CEO is leading a team of recovery professionals that are providing hope for families with addiction.

Congratulations to Munson’s Paul Oliver Hospital for 75 years of service to the community. Wonderful to see the number of people that showed up to celebrate the anniversary. I talked with the first person born at the hospital and she was proud to say she had that distinction.

Yesterday was a busy day. Meetings with constituents and child Welfare groups. Then I attended the MI Federation for Children Senior Management Conference. And my legislative director went to the 50th anniversary of the Natural Resources Trust Fund. She said it was a great event looking at all the projects funded and their impact on the quality of life for Michiganders all over the state. Many of the people who were in office or working for Gov. Milliken were there to celebrate.
