James DeSana - State Representative Representative for Michigan's 29th House District, comprising Taylor, Carleton, Flat Rock, and Monroe

09/25/2026

This week, Rep. Amos O’Neal and I held a press conference on our new anti-offshoring bills. The idea is simple: if a company takes Michigan tax dollars through grants, incentives, or corporate giveaways and then ships its call center jobs overseas, it has to notify the state, report how many jobs are affected, and pay back the taxpayer money it received.

Michigan taxpayers deserve their money back, and these jobs belong in America. 🇺🇸

I’ve also come out in support of a 90-day suspension of Michigan’s 52.5-cent gas tax. Prices at the pump are crushing working families, and there’s more than enough pork and wasteful spending in our state budget to cover the difference. The proposal didn’t make it out of committee this week, but I’ll keep pushing to bring it back.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

If your company takes Michigan taxpayer dollars, those jobs should stay in Michigan. Period.

Today I joined State Representative Amos O'Neal and the Communications Workers of America to introduce legislation that makes it simple: companies that receive state grants, tax incentives, or contracts can’t turn around and ship their call centers overseas.

Too many Michigan families have watched good jobs disappear while the companies that cut them kept cashing checks from Lansing. That ends here. If you want Michigan’s support, you invest in Michigan workers.

This isn’t a Republican or Democrat issue. It’s a Michigan issue. Thank you to Rep. O’Neal and the men and women of CWA for standing up for the workers who answer the phones and keep these companies running.

15% down, 85% left to go!

The MEDC will eliminate about 15% of its positions in the coming days through layoffs and the elimination of unfilled jobs.

This week me and my staff were in Washington meeting with our federal partners at the Department of Health and Human Services, & the Department of War.

We also attended the very first Interstate DOGE Council meeting headed up by the Heritage Foundation. We were able to learn a lot about what other states are doing to tackle Waste, Fraud, & Abuse.

Michigan taxpayers deserve to know exactly how their money is being spent. I fought to end secret pork and insider deals by requiring every budget project to be disclosed 45 days before passage and fully reviewed in public. I’m putting taxpayers first and delivering real value for every dollar.

Michigan families deserve affordable, reliable energy. I’m fighting to stop utility companies from using your payments for politics, expand our energy options to strengthen the grid, and restore local control over energy projects. It’s time to keep the lights on and lower electric bills for Michigan families.

Lansing’s insider culture has put lobbyists and political connections ahead of the people for far too long. I passed reforms to stop politicians from immediately becoming lobbyists, end secret nondisclosure agreements, and bring transparency to budget deals. I’m putting you, not the insiders, first.

Monroe and Downriver families shouldn’t have to compete with Wall Street to achieve the American Dream. I’m fighting to stop large corporations from buying up single-family homes, keep more homes available for local families, and give Michigan homebuyers a fair shot at homeownership.

Michigan families are paying too much just to stay in their homes. I’m fighting to eliminate state property taxes, lower utility bills, and deliver real, lasting savings homeowners can count on. It’s time to make Michigan more affordable and put money back in your pocket.

Today my bill HB 6285 along with Mike Hoadley - State Representative bill HB 6284 was introduced today which would repeal Michigan's Ban on Short Barrel Ri**es (SBR), Short Barrel Sh****ns (SBS) and Suppressors/Mufflers. Under existing law those are only legal if they are federally registered.

Due to the recent Federal Court Ruling the Federal Registration has the potential to be struck down therefore criminalizing law abiding gun owners who no longer are able to obtain federal registration if struck down.

Read more about our bill below:

State Reps. James DeSana and Mike Hoadley today introduced a legislative package to repeal Michigan’s outdated, stand-alone criminal prohibitions on short-barreled ri**es, short-barreled sh****ns, and suppressors, protecting law-abiding gun owners from potential felony liability if federal require...
