Happy 104th Birthday to Bay City’s Vera Gobeski!

This real-life “Rosie The Riveter” helped make specialized parts for military aircraft at the Dow Chemical Foundry in Bay City. Her work helped win World War II and opened doors for future generations of women in manufacturing. It was a privilege to congratulate and thank her in person.

I enjoyed visiting with Delta College students participating in this year’s Civic Thinkers & Science Scholars Forum. From the environmental and personal impacts of climate change and chemicals to healthcare and more, their table displays and policy ideas are impressive. Great work!

Notes of Hope was the first big event for Crowned With Care and founder, Chala Crawford. It’s an amazing thing to bring what’s in one’s heart to reality. Chala mobilized businesses, community organizations, and volunteers to write uplifting messages to our youth, fill backpacks with supplies, and connect families with resources. I appreciate everyone doing their part to bring more positivity to our community.

As someone who benefitted from positive adults in my youth, I know how important it is for Black boys to have strong role models. Glad I could speak to that at this morning’s Black Men and Boys Brunch organized by Percy Glover in Flint.

When our dams failed in 2020, I was one of many first responders evacuating residents. Last week, I voted to finalize bipartisan bills that will improve the physical and financial integrity of Michigan’s dams. With stronger flood control standards, increased inspections, and a requirement for dam owners to prove they can afford maintenance, this legislation is long-overdue protection for our families and property.

MICHIGAN ADVANCE: “On Thursday, (Michigan Sen. Chedrick Greene) presented a bill to the state Senate Elections and Ethics Committee that would require Michigan to reimburse county, city and township governments for the cost of conducting a special election.”
