TFD215 IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Dear District 215 Families and Staff,
District 215 will open for students on Wednesday, August 19, and we are ready to begin the 2026–2027 school year. Power has been restored at all campuses, and our buses will be able to run their regular routes. As a reminder, our first day will follow our typical early release Wednesday schedule with a 1:40 pm dismissal for students. As students travel to school, please continue to exercise caution. Some streets and sidewalks in Lansing and the surrounding communities may still have fallen trees, debris, utility work, or other storm-related obstructions. Students should avoid any area that appears unsafe and use extra care when walking to school or to bus stops. While we are excited to open our doors and welcome our students, we understand there are still families heavily impacted by the aftermath of the storms. If your family is dealing with circumstances that prevent your student from attending school, please call the attendance line (North 585-1007, Center 585-9401, South 585-2040) and leave a message.

Families who need meals may pick up a grab-and-go breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, August 18, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. at:
• TF North High School — West side of the building, Door W1 near the cafeteria
• TF Center High School — Door N3
Our cafeteria staff will also be available at the following community locations, provided those areas remain accessible around ongoing utility and recovery work:
• Schultz Park, Lansing — 10:15–10:45 a.m.
• Erfert Park, Lansing — 11:00–11:30 a.m.
• Lake View Community Park at the Curtis Granderson Municipal Baseball Complex, Lynwood — 11:45 a.m.–12:15 p.m.

Continue to be safe and we look forward seeing our students and staff Wednesday! District 215 staff will receive an e-mail from their Principals with additional information.

D215 Families and Staff,
We are devastated by the impact that the recent severe weather has had on our students, families, staff, and the greater community. Our hearts go out to all of those impacted by this natural disaster. As we continue communications with our local municipalities and evaluate the state of our communities, we want to share that Wednesday, August 19th will be the earliest possible return to school date for our students. This tentative return date is dependent on full power being restored and our ability to ensure the safe transportation of our students. We anxiously await the day we are able to welcome students back and are committed to supporting our communities. Families who need meals can pick up a “grab ‘n’ go” breakfast and lunch on Monday, August 17th and Tuesday, August 18th between the hours of 10 am-12 pm at the following locations:
• TF North High School (West side of building, Door W1 by cafeteria)
• TF Center High School (Door N3).

Additionally, our cafeteria staff will be stationed at the following community locations unless accessibility due to work crews prevents it:
• Schultz Park in Lansing 10:15-10:45 am
• Erfert Park in Lansing 11:00-11:30 am
• Lake View Community Park at the Curtis Granderson Municipal Baseball Complex in Lynwood 11:45 am- 12:15 pm

IMPORTANT: Thornton Fractional HS District 215 classes have been canceled for Friday, August 14th due to the storms and and their continued impact on our communities. This will NOT be an e-learning day and it will need to be made up at the end of the school year. Please stay safe and watch for updates tomorrow for information regarding next week.

The entire Thornton Fractional High School District 215 community is profoundly saddened by the death of Tim Bankston who was an employee/coach at TF North. Our deepest sympathy is extended to his family, his friends and all who are grieving this painful loss. Coach Bankston became a TF North Meteor in 1997 as a special education teacher’s aide and assistant basketball coach. In 2002 he became the head coach of the basketball program. His life experiences growing up on the south side of Chicago, playing for legendary Simeon Coach Bob Hambric, winning a State Championship, and losing his close friend, teammate, and Chicago legend Ben Wilson to gun violence, gave him insight and credibility as he inspired hundreds of students and athletes to be the best players and people, they could be. He was not just beloved; he was a mentor that countless alumni credit for being the overriding influence that made them into the positive, productive members of communities that they are today. He will be missed by the entire Thornton Fractional High School District 215 family and grief counseling support is being provided for our staff and students.

Please notice for anyone visiting TF North:
Effective June 1st until further notice the regular main entrance at North is under construction. During the construction, the North campus entrance is door E8 . This door is accessible through the East courtyard. Thank you for your cooperation.
