Michigan is erasing more than $21 million in medical debt for nearly 10,000 people in the latest round of relief, part of more than $221 million eliminated through the state's partnership with Undue Medical Debt.

This World Food Day, we're celebrating what happens when we invest in students, families, and Michigan communities.

Senate Democrats have continued championing free school meals for Michigan students. In the first year of universal free meals, nearly 100,000 more students ate breakfast at school each day and more than 140,000 more ate lunch, compared with the previous year.

Those investments reach beyond the cafeteria, too. Michigan's school meals program brings more federal dollars into our state to purchase local foods, supporting Michigan farmers and producers while making nutritious meals available to students.

As National School Lunch Week comes to a close, we're proud to keep supporting a program that feeds students, saves families money, and strengthens Michigan communities.

This National School Lunch Week, we're celebrating a program that's delivering real results.

Since Michigan made free school meals available to all students, daily breakfast participation has increased by more than 107,000 students, while daily lunch participation has grown by more than 128,000 students.

Meaning more students in the classroom are fed, focused, and ready to learn. Because a good education starts with making sure no child goes hungry at school.
