Thank you for liking the Nez Perce Tribe Social Services Department on Facebook. No spam.

NPT participates in Facebook in order to engage individuals and organizations on events, news and successes of the Tribe. NPT provides content on Facebook to encourage outreach and information awareness of the Tribe. The Nez Perce, who call themselves NiMiiPuu, have resided in what is now northcentral Idaho, southeastern Washington, and northeastern Oregon for thousands of years. Until the mid-1800s, the Nez Perce Tribe's aboriginal territory included over 13 million acres. The territory centered on the middle Snake and Clearwater rivers and the northern Salmon River. The Nez Perce Nez Perce Tribe is governed by the Nez Perce Constitution and By-laws established in 1948 and revised in 1961. The constitution established the Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee and a council of all adult tribal members, known as Tribal General Council. The Executive Committee, consisting of nine members, has the authority to represent the Nez Perce Tribe in negotiations, promote and protect the health, education, and general welfare of Tribal members, administer unrestricted Tribal funds, and set rules governing Executive Committee nominations and elections. On January 24, 1995 the Nez Perce Tribe adopted Resolution 95-185 stating: The Nez Perce Tribe Executive Committee is responsible for the Social Services for the Nez Perce Reservation; and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Social Services Program at Northern Idaho is a program that can be contracted under P.L. 93-638 and the Nez Perce Tribe Executive Committee has established under tribal control that the Social Services would be more closely coordinated with other Social Services and could be tailored to address the unique needs of the Nez Perce Reservation; and on this date, the Nez Perce Tribe takes formal action to authorize the submission of the BIA Social Services 638 Contract under Chairman Charles Hayes.
