Rep. Alec Ryncavage PA State Representative in the 119th District fighting for 13 towns and 65k residents across NEPA. Alec continues to reside in Plymouth Borough with his family.

At the youthful age of 21, Alec Ryncavage, of Plymouth, is honored to bring his unique experiences forging his own non-traditional pathway to define a new chapter for the people of the 119th Legislative District in Luzerne County and deliver prosperity for all of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Beginning his career as a freelance website developer in middle school and as a product of the internet age, Alec has dedicated his career to public service and entrepreneurship. First elected to public office at the age of 18, Alec spent his time outside of his technology business as a councilman for his hometown of Plymouth, where he led the revitalization of its historic downtown Main Street and was a fiscal watchdog. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Alec was named to the Luzerne County COVID-19 Crisis Management Team to handle the strategic distribution of knowledge and resources across the 76 municipalities located in Luzerne County. Following his public high school graduation at Wyoming Valley West, Alec opted out of pursuing higher education as a leader to inspire other young people looking to disrupt the status quo. As a result, Alec founded a his own cybersecurity startup specializing in protecting small to medium organizations, like those located in his Luzerne County district, from foreign and domestic online threats. After raising nearly 2 million dollars in venture capital, he never lost touch to his roots or those who got him to where he is today. When offered to relocate to Silicon Valley, Alec stayed local to invest in our local coal region. Like many Pennsylvanian small towns, Alec has lived in a community stripped of its energy economy. No bigger impact on Alec's early years was witnessing his own family’s hardships, which motivates him to be a moderate voice and critical thinker to help working-class families and those living on fixed-incomes. Alec believes in cutting through partisan gridlock to make Pennsylvania more business friendly, empower our small municipalities by keeping our youth local, and deliver common-sense governing solutions that will directly benefit families across the Commonwealth. Today was a chance to see both the needs Hanover Area School District is working through and the exciting progress already taking shape.

Senator Lisa Baker and I spent time walking through the high school campus, getting a firsthand look at its facilities and some of the needs being considered for the years ahead.

We then toured the district’s new elementary campus, an exciting investment in the future of Hanover Area that will bring Pre-K through 6th grade students together in a modern learning environment.

For nearly a decade, we’ve been told Washington was the reason for the Rain Tax. All while homeowners and businesses were forced to pay it and Commonwealth agencies fought to avoid paying it themselves. In April, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled it was a tax, not a fee.

Yesterday’s White House executive order took away any excuse. The federal order used to justify the Rain Tax is gone, and Pennsylvania now has the opportunity to get rid of it.

Thank you to Congressman Rob Bresnahan for bringing that fight to DC and delivering for our community.

The future of the Rain Tax now rests with Gov. Shapiro’s Department of Environmental Protection, or the state legislature needs to act.

This is one of those times when who controls each chamber matters. Pennsylvania has an opportunity to end the Rain Tax. Now we need the votes to do it.

Following our session in Philadelphia, Matthew Cooper had to hit the road. He had an interview for the United States Naval Academy the very next day!

Matthew joined me at Congress Hall for a historic session of the Pennsylvania House commemorating America’s 250th birthday. Just feet from where the Declaration of Independence was drafted, the American experiment was put to work as our earliest legislators gathered here to govern a new nation.

Matthew carries a 4.0 GPA while taking AP coursework, participating in ski club, student council, FBLA, and two varsity sports. That’s not to mention his community service and part-time job. Matthew is an outstanding representative of Wyoming Valley West, his classmates, and the 119th District.

His goal is to serve our country as a naval aviator, which made it especially fitting to have him with us in a place where so much of our nation’s story began. I wish Matthew nothing but the very best in all that lies ahead.

Had a great visit to YMCA Camp Kresge to see firsthand just how much happens here for kids and families across Luzerne County.

We happened to stop by while the PA State Police Camp Cadet program was in full swing, but Camp Kresge is busy well beyond summer camp. They host community organizations and programs throughout the year and are doing some really important work to help fight childhood hunger in our area.

We also got a look at their plans for a new dining hall, which would allow them to expand their feeding programs and serve even more kids and groups year-round.

Really appreciate the team taking the time to show Rep. Brenda Pugh and me around and talk about where they want to take Camp Kresge next!

Thank you to Congressman Rob Bresnahan for bringing U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to see the West Nanticoke Bridge closure firsthand today.

A visit from the U.S. Transportation Secretary is not something every local project receives. Bringing Sec. Duffy here focused national attention on the bridge and opened the door for officials at every level of government to work together on the path forward.

In May, the county announced that it had retained Modjeski and Masters Inc. to begin the preliminary design phase for the county-owned bridge, a process expected to take approximately two years. Preliminary design is only one step in the broader process, which also includes permitting, final design, and construction. In fact, projects like this can take five or six years to permit, even though construction itself may take only one or two years.

At today’s meeting, we urged Sec. Duffy to ensure that federal permitting does not delay the project more. He committed to having his office work directly with Congressman Bresnahan to coordinate federal efforts and help keep this critical project moving forward.

While youth athletic organizations across our region continue to face challenges, the Mountain Top Youth Soccer Association is growing. More than 600 local kids now participate in its recreational soccer programs, and its five-field, 52-acre SoccerPlex is increasingly drawing teams and families from across the region for tournaments.

Yesterday, I joined MYSA athletes, families, and Board members at their season kickoff to announce the next step in that growth: a nearly $300,000 effort to improve the SoccerPlex with paving, ADA accessibility, irrigation, and lighting. Since last fall, the Board has been getting the ball rolling, coordinating with engineers and committing nearly $50,000 in matching funds toward a $250,000 Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program grant.

I’ll be working hard to advocate for MYSA’s application as it moves through the grant process. We’re hopeful for an award this winter and the opportunity to get to work in spring and summer 2027. This is an investment in hundreds of local kids, a growing community organization, and a facility with the potential to bring even more tournaments, families, and economic activity to NEPA.
