Since 1968, Fire Station 3 has served the west side of Las Cruces. Today, we honored that history and celebrated what comes next. 🚒

Our Celebration of Service recognized the historic station’s decades of service to Las Cruces and included a groundbreaking for a new Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) building at the same site.

The new facility will house the MIH and LIGHT (Lessening Instance of Grief Harm & Trauma) teams, carrying forward this location’s legacy of community care.

Speakers included Mayor Eric Enriquez, Mayor Pro Tem John Muñoz, Fire Chief Michael Daniels, Representative Angelica Rubio, Pavilion Construction Project Manager Jose Rivera Ortega, and Communications Director Mandy Leatherwood.

The Art Stop Exhibit brings creativity into our everyday spaces, and we're highlighting another installation from this community public art series!

The featured artwork, titled Waiting for the Bus, is located at the bus shelter on Walnut St. at Lohman Ave.

Artist Crystal Evans created this original watercolor painting of a spadefoot toad waiting at a bus stop with a brown paper bag full of groceries. Overhead, a dragonfly zips by, carrying a handbag and wearing a hat. Inspired by the hustle and bustle of Las Cruces bus stops, Crystal chose a few animals “on the go” to represent locals enjoying a pleasant day as they wait for their public transportation. The piece feels cheerful and lively—offering a welcoming view for people passing by.

Crystal Evans is a painter, potter, and poet. Mostly self-taught, she enjoys breaking artistic convention and leaning into the experimental. Born and raised in Las Cruces, she takes pride in her community and draws inspiration from ceramic artist Shōji Hamada and visual artist Clive Barker. Her creative journey includes artist residencies at the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument and Carlsbad Caverns National Park. She is a member of The Potter’s Guild of Las Cruces and a full-time NMSU student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.

The Art Stop Bus Shelter Public Art Exhibit was created by the City Art Board to make art more accessible to community members and enhance the everyday experience of our public spaces.

Cariño to our Roadrunner Transit team! 💙

We recently received some kind words following a presentation to the Doña Ana Resilience Leaders group:

“Several community partners made comments on the fixed route program and staff. They praised how friendly the drivers are and how helpful they are with passengers. They also praised the Customer Service Representatives for all their assistance when calling for directions or guidance on which bus to take.”

Kudos to our Roadrunner Transit team for providing friendly, helpful service to our community every day. Your work does not go unnoticed! 🚌💙

Each light represents strength, resilience, hope, and the collective commitment to a future where more people can live longer with this disease.

Let’s celebrate a fresh new look and exciting improvements at Meerscheidt Recreation Center!

The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department invites the public and media to join us for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the renovations at Meerscheidt Recreation Center at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, at 1600 E. Hadley Ave.

The celebration will feature remarks from Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez and District 1 Councilor Cassie McClure, along with proclamations from the Greater Las Cruces Chamber of Commerce and the Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

After months of renovations, Meerscheidt is ready to welcome the community to an enhanced space designed for more fun, connection, and activity! Improvements will make it easier to host tournaments, provide more versatile rooms for camps and recreation programs, and offer families a larger, more comfortable gathering space between games and matches.

Come celebrate with us! Join us as we cut the ribbon, explore the improvements, and discover how the refreshed Meerscheidt Recreation Center is ready to serve our community for years to come.

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library has served Las Cruces from its current building since 1979.

Today, the 44,000-square-foot facility serves a growing community and provides access to books, technology, educational programs, meeting spaces, and other resources. The Library’s current size no longer meets the community's needs, and some spaces, including the children’s area, are significantly smaller than those in comparable communities.

A Library Master Plan completed in 2024 identified opportunities for improvement and helped establish a vision for the facility’s future.
