Hi Everyone,

My name is Abram Johnson and I am one of the recreation planners at Red Rock Canyon NCA with the Bureau of Land Management. I wanted to reach out to pass along some information regarding the La Madre Foothills area in Red Rock and important changes to the off-road routes there.

I have spoken to several of you before and we discussed the Recreation Area Management Plan (RAMP) for La Madre Foothills that was signed in September of 2024, which included an official designated route for off-road vehicle use in the area; I have attached it to this email for reference. The BLM recently finished installing signage to designate the route and the project is now complete. However, I wanted to pass along that Howard Hughes has started closing off the southern boundary line of the La Madre Foothills that runs against their property, meaning that off-road vehicles will not be able to access or exit the area from that side. Going forward, access and exit points to and from La Madre Foothills will be limited to W Tropical Pkwy and northern routes entering from SR-157.

The map above shows the designated route in purple, closed routes in red, and mountain biking trails in green. You will also see a few yellow highlighted segments along the red trails—these are routes the BLM kept open and designated. The orange highlighted area at the bottom is where access is now blocked.

We are currently working on an updated public map that will reflect these changes. It should be ready sometime next month, and I will gladly send it your way as soon as it is available.

Feel free to share this information with your club members and anyone else who recreates in the area. We want to make sure everyone stays informed so they can plan ahead and continue enjoying this beautiful part of Red Rock. And of course, do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the newly designated route system.

To your success,
Abram Johnson

Mint 400 Post-Race Desert Clean-Up
 Sunday, March 8th
 10:00 AM
 Terrible’s – Jean, NV
For years, I’ve helped organize this clean-up because stewardship matters. This year we’re rallying under the Nevada Offroad Association banner — but the mission is the same: leave it better than we found it.
If you ride, race, spectate, or love the desert… come help us protect it
& a huge thank you to Walter Codesido & Cynthia Codesido for co-hosting again!
