Judgements are a dime a dozen. One person gets selected because the powers at be think the candidate would do a good job, but then they end up not being a good fit at all. Meanwhile, you got passed over, and it turns out you were perfect for the job.

Qualification, experience, and ability count, so give the candidates an opportunity to prove their strengths and weaknesses for the job/assignment. Don't think you know what you don't know.
