One of the most important things we do is provide financial assistance to students pursuing higher education or trade school opportunities in Nevada. Through our Renee Diamond Scholarship and Carol Chesnut Law Scholarship programs, deserving students are selected by our Scholarship Committees to receive support toward their educational goals and future careers.
The scholarship recipients are honored and presented with their awards at our Women’s Equality Day Luncheon in August. If you know a young Democratic adult preparing to attend a college, university, law school, or trade school, please encourage them to submit an application and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Women's Democratic Club of Clark County honors and remembers the brave men and women of our military who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their devotion to country, to democracy, and to the freedoms we cherish will never be forgotten.
On this Memorial Day, we pause to reflect on the courage, selflessness, and patriotism of those who gave their lives so that future generations could live in liberty. Their sacrifice is the foundation upon which our democracy stands.
Especially during challenging times, when our President has no respect for military, we remain deeply grateful to all who have served and sacrificed in defense of our nation and its people. Without their bravery and commitment, we would not enjoy the freedoms and opportunities we have today.
May we always honor their memory not only with words, but by protecting the democratic ideals for which they fought.

Mayors Shelley Berkley and Jan Jones Blackhurst are extraordinary women whose leadership has left an enduring imprint on our community and across the State of Nevada. With a steadfast “can do” spirit, they have each brought vision, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to public service—qualities that have not only shaped policy, but strengthened the very fabric of Las Vegas.
As pioneers and trailblazers, they broke barriers and redefined what leadership looks like in our city. Their work led to meaningful, structural progress—enhancing the quality of life for residents, elevating the experience of visitors, and prioritizing the safety and well-being of all who call Las Vegas home. Their legacy is not just in what they accomplished, but in the opportunities they created for those who will follow in their footsteps.
We extend our sincere thanks to Mayors Shelley Berkley and Jan Jones Blackhurst for presenting such a dynamic and engaging program today at the Women's Democratic Club of Clark County. Our members and guests had the privilege of hearing two extraordinary women share their personal journeys, public service, leadership experiences, and insights into politics and community engagement.
The conversation was both educational and enjoyable, filled with wisdom, humor, and inspiration. We are grateful for the time, candor, and energy they brought to our Club and appreciate their continued commitment to strengthening our community and encouraging civic participation.
Thank you, Marta Schmitt for your photos.

Today, we mourn the loss of our lifetime member and dear friend, Joyce Woodhouse. Joyce dedicated her life to education and public service with a passion and commitment that inspired all who knew her. From her beginnings as a teacher at Vegas Verdes Elementary School, to serving as a principal, and ultimately as a respected member of the Nevada Legislature, Joyce never stopped advocating for children, families, and public education. She approached every role with intelligence, compassion, and unwavering integrity.
For decades, Joyce faithfully served as our Legislative Advisor, always generous with her time, wisdom, and guidance. We were honored to recognize her at our Spotlight Dinner for her many accomplishments, especially her extraordinary work in the field of education. But beyond her achievements, Joyce will be remembered for her warmth, her infectious laugh, her radiant smile, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was truly one of the most remarkable women we have ever known, and the world is better because she was in it. May the angels bring you home, dear Joyce, and may your memory forever be a blessing.
