Take a look back at the recruiting efforts
of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in the 1960s.
After WWIl, the Auxiliary began to focus
heavily on boating safety, education,
and vessel examinations while under
the direction of the Department of
Transportation.

Let us know if you've seen any of these
recruiting posters throughout the years and
comment the best one you have seen!

Real boaters love their gear. What do you always bring boating?

BOAT RESPONSIBLY: Boating unprepared can have dangerous consequences. The opposite is also true.

It was a great day to meet the community today at the Santa Fe Station Veterans Expo. We met many wonderful veterans and heard amazing stories. We got to talk about what we, the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, do and had some people interested in possibly becoming a part of the team.

Come and join us today at this event. We have a booth set up. We would love to meet you. It's a great chance to get to know us and what we do. We have lots of information on boating safety. We'll see you there.

TBT- Did you know David Hasselhoff was a member of the Auxiliary?

During Baywatch’s television run from 1989 to 2001, Hasselhoff helped the Auxiliary to create PSAs on water safety. He even featured a number of USCG vessels in the show throughout its run.

In 1997, Hasselhoff was made an honorary Commodore for his work alongside the Auxiliary. Let us know if you've watched Baywatch and spotted any USCG vessels in any episodes!

Have a happy and safe Labor Day weekend! If you're going out on the water, here are a few very important reminders:

1. For your safety, bring the following in addition to life jackets: Marine VHF, Flares, Emergency Positioning Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB)
2. Always file a float plan and leave a copy with a family member who is not going with you. Go the following link to read about it and download the float plan:
https://floatplancentral.cgaux.org/
3. Here are important phone numbers to have. Make sure you to have them written down in case of emergency and keep a copy with you and a copy to family members not going with you:
911
Emergency National Park Service: 702-293-8932
Towboat US: 800-395-2628

Enjoy and Stay Safe

Trivia Thursday...

Do you know how the Auxiliary first began?

Can you name our founder?

Our founder's initial idea for the Auxiliary formed when he requested that the Coast Guard inspect his vessel, a similar yacht to the one pictured here, for his upcoming trip from Los Angeles to Catalina Island in 1934. He recognized the opportunity of boaters across the nation to aid the Coast Guard's mission, and without his passion for pursuing such a project as recruiting civilian personnel to do so, the Auxiliary would likely not be here today as it is.

Check in later today to see if you answered correctly.

Just a subtle😉 reminder to ALWAYS wear a life jacket when going in the water, especially this Labor Day Weekend. Being safe is always better than being sorry.
