NAN, housed under UNLV's NICRP, supports out-of-school-time programs to provide access to safe and quality opportunities for all school-age youth throughout Nevada. The Nevada Afterschool Network provides a variety of services to out-of-school-time providers and staff, community members, parents and youth. Included in our services are professional development opportunities, workshops for families on accessing quality programming for their children; fun activities and web based links for children to explore a variety of topics and for help with homework. The Network is also part of a nationwide network of similar programs that promote advocacy, policy, and fund development for out-of-school time programs.

Happy ! Last night, our 2027 Flight Crew had their first virtual training! 🥳

UNLV COMSLab Student Coach, Evelin Simon, was kind enough to be our guest speaker. She gave the crew some great advice for developing an elevator speech to share their STEM story and advocate for STEM in OST. This was perfect timing, as we also celebrated yesterday! 📝🎤 💡

We’re excited to have Evelin again as our guest speaker for their November training where they will learn some fundamentals about public speaking delivery and practice giving their speeches.

It’s not too late to turn a great idea into an AI Innovation Challenge project.

Youth teams can start with a real-world problem they care about and use AI to research, explore ideas, and strengthen their solution.

No AI experience? No coding skills? No working prototype? No problem. The free Challenge Toolkit gives educators step-by-step resources to guide their teams from idea to submission.

Programs can compete for up to $5,000 in prize funding.

Submissions are due November 19.

🖨️ Nevada OST Programs: NAN Needs Your Help!

NAN is partnering with Dartmouth College on a research study exploring 3D printing safety, air quality, and health in afterschool programs.

We are looking for Nevada OST programs that currently use a 3D printer, or will have one in use by November 2026, to participate in this brief study.

✨ Selected programs will receive FREE:

-3D printing curriculum
-3D printing safety manual
-3D printing materials
