WHO IS MOJAVE MAX???
He is the mascot for the Clark County Desert Conservation program and is a live Mojave Desert tortoise that lives at Springs Preserve.
He has no privacy because a camera is pointed at the entrance to his burrow to capture the exact moment he emerges from brumation (the reptilian form of hibernation).

officially kicks off our 2025 . let everyone know what Mojave Max already knew...it's cold out there and spring is still a long way off!
Mojave Max is Clark County's official prognosticator. As far as we are concerned, it isn't spring until Max emerges and says it's spring.
In celebration of 25 years of the Mojave Max Emergence Contest, ALL Clark County residents (18+) are invited to enter their guess as to the day and time Mojave Max will emerge from brumation this year. Until now, this contest was only open to elementary school students, so this is kind of a BIG DEAL. Details will be released this week. Stay tuned...
