In the 1920s Matt Schulien started doing card tricks in between serving up drinks, and before long the crowds started to flock to his place in order to laugh and gasp at his magical antics. Everyone that was anyone came to Schulien’s. The rich and the famous, mobsters and politicians, sports figures and average joes, tourists and locals all found themselves side by side with each other having the time of their lives at Schulien’s. Matt passed the tradition of his wonderful magic on to his sons and for almost a hundred years the name Schulien has been synonymous with great amazement and amusement. Some thirty years ago a young man named Danny Doyle had the unique experience of learning firsthand from members of the Schulien family the secrets that made their family’s dynasty of magic so extraordinary. For more than a decade he carried on this legerdemain tradition there at Schulien’s, and since that time has performed this great magic across the country and around the world.
