Journey through millions of years of Red Rock’s natural history! Students will print with seashells and dinosaur feet, work with paint and sand, and create texture as they learn about ancient seas, desert dunes, dinosaur tracks, shifting rock layers, erosion, and plant life. Create a small record of how Red Rock Canyon took shape over deep time!

Designed for children ages 6-12. Parents must stay with their children throughout the class. If parents would like to participate, they should complete a separate registration.

This event is free to attend, but registration is required. Donations to Friends of Red Rock will be graciously accepted online or at the event.

About the Artist
Richelle Mechem creates high-relief, multimedia abstracts. Mechem’s sculptural paintings fuse various media to capture the allure of geology and astronomy. Her work often incorporates natural elements, such as rocks, shells, and sand, enticing viewers to appreciate the spirituality and beauty of the natural world through her art. Her work supports the protection of ecosystems by drawing attention to what is at risk through environmental change and extinction. Mechem holds degrees in art history and art education and has experience teaching a wide range of students in both art centers and public schools. Mechem’s artwork has been exhibited in regional galleries and public venues. It has also been published in notable magazines and journals.
