Recent state budgets have made some progress. But there’s still a long way to go to close that gap.

Another tough state budget year is ahead. We understand the challenges, but the need for long-term care isn’t slowing down.

The hard truth: current funding doesn’t cover the actual cost of care.

That’s why we’re fighting to protect every dollar we’ve already secured for long-term care funding and urging greater investment in the years to come.

The Resident Assistant program helps older adults stay connected to the resources they need, right in their own community. By supporting this program, we can help avoid costlier options like assisted living or nursing homes down the road.

It’s a win for older adults and a smart investment for our state.

We’re urging state lawmakers to support this program because independence and affordability shouldn’t be at odds.

While much of our focus is on Albany, the fight for better long-term care doesn’t stop at the state line.

We need federal partners to step up too, investing in long-term care and ensuring that every New Yorker gets the quality care they need, right now.

Since 2020, 23 nursing homes have closed statewide, wiping out thousands of beds and increasing waiting lists for patients who need long-term care now.

The root cause? As ArchCare notes in this The New York Times story, inadequate state Medicaid reimbursement rates don't cover the true cost of care and are exacerbating the crisis.

New York lawmakers: this has to be a priority. Our aging population can’t wait.

As the oldest baby boomers turn 80, researchers worry there won’t be enough room in nursing facilities for a rapidly graying nation.

Yes, these recommendations come with a cost, but smart investment now means real savings for our state down the road.

Supporting older New Yorkers isn't just the right thing to do — it’s the fiscally responsible one, too.
