Jones County- Sunday morning at 2 AM, Ovett VFD responded to a double structure fire on J R Nicholson Road. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single story brick structure fully involved along with a camper that was next to the home. A defensive strategy was performed to combat the fire and protect the surroundings including the wood line in which the fire had began to spread to. Both structures were a total loss and there were no injuries reported by residents. Two pets were lost in the fire and a car parked in front of the brick home was heavily damaged by the flames. 🚩 RED FLAG WARNING 🚩

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Red Flag Warning for Jones County, which is in effect from 9 AM to 8 PM Friday.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create explosive fire growth potential.

Please take the following precautions:
- Avoid all outdoor burning, including debris piles and burn barrels.
- Do not use grills, smokers, or outdoor cooking equipment that produce open flames.
- Secure trailer chains and avoid parking vehicles on dry grass.
- Properly dispose of ci******es; never throw them from a vehicle.
- Postpone activities that could create sparks (welding, grinding, mowing dry grass).
- Ensure water tanks or extinguishers is readily available if working outdoors.
- Report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to 911.
- Review evacuation plans and stay alert for rapidly changing fire conditions.
- Follow guidance from local emergency management and fire officials.

Please help protect Jones County by staying alert and fire safe!
