Scotland County Schools An Investment in the Future Thank you for your interest in Scotland County Schools.

Our commitment to you as parents and taxpayers is your children will receive a world-class education. We are strengthening our schools so your children will be inspired to learn, to understand and to grow into skillful and thoughtful citizens who are equipped to play vital roles in the ongoing development and enrichment of Scotland County and beyond. Student achievement is paramount, and our pledge is we will align our resources so that every child achieves his or her highest level of potential as measured against state, national and international standards of academic performance. Our expectation for students is they will reach their full potential and make appropriate decisions about the life they want to lead. Our goal is every student that comes through our doors will walk out with a diploma and the skills they need to be successful in an ever-changing world. It is imperative that parents be fully involved in the education of their children. I know it is hard for working parents, but I implore you to find the time, every day, to help your children finish school assignments, to read, and to take responsibility for learning. Most of all, I ask parents to love and to praise your child's accomplishments and teach them the joy in learning and growing. We need you to be actively involved, to stay informed and ask the tough questions. We will work to earn your trust, and as we do we ask that you support your students as they grow and learn in Scotland County Schools. Thank you for allowing us to educate your children, and thank you for supporting Scotland County Schools.

Pink was the color of the day at Shaw Academy! 💗

Their school community came together for a Pink Out in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to show support for everyone affected by breast cancer.

A special shoutout to Shaw Academy’s caring and supportive staff. The kindness they show one another and their school community is something to celebrate. Thank you for making today meaningful and for reminding us how much it matters to stand together. 💕

Imagination took flight today for our SCS students! ✈

All of Scotland County Schools’ third-grade AIG (Academically and Intellectually Gifted) students had the opportunity to attend STEM Expo Day at the Sky High Aerospace Expo and Fly-In at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport!

From robotics and drones to planes, helicopters, and military equipment, students enjoyed hands-on activities that brought science, technology, engineering, and math to life. What a fun way to explore new interests, discover career possibilities, and let their imaginations soar! 🚁🤖

Thank you to the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport for hosting this exciting event and welcoming our students for a day of learning and discovery!

A special thank-you to Scotland Health Care System, the event’s naming sponsor, as well as the other sponsors including: SR Performance Eyewear, SE Regional Airport Authority, Air Boss Sky Command, LLC, Chick-fil-A, the International Council of Air Shows (ICAS), and the Southeast Council of Air Shows (SECAS). Thank you for helping make this experience possible for our students and community!

The excitement continues all weekend! Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, features the expo and air show, followed by fireworks that night. The weekend wraps up with a church service on Sunday, October 18.

Our monthly ‘Lunch with the Superintendent’ gives staff members selected by their principals a chance to sit down with Dr. Baldwin, share feedback, and talk about matters that are important to Scotland County Schools.

We’re grateful to the staff members who take part in these conversations and help us keep listening, learning, and working together for our schools and students. A special thank-you to Chef Jim Kitzmiller and our culinary arts students for preparing a delicious lunch!

Scotland County Schools was proud to take part in the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce’s annual State of Education Breakfast this morning. Superintendent Dr. Adell Baldwin joined fellow panelists Dr. Tracy Mulvaney, Dean of the School of Education at UNC Pembroke, and Brent Barbee, President of Richmond Community College. Dr. Robert Locklear, MyFutureNC’s Sandhills Regional Impact Manager, moderated the discussion.

The conversation explored how our community can close gaps in educational achievement and attainment, strengthen connections between schools, colleges, workforce partners and local employers, and create clearer pathways from the classroom to careers. Panelists also discussed how we can work together to address barriers, prepare students for local opportunities and help young people see a bright future here in Scotland County.

Thank you to the Chamber for bringing community leaders together around these important topics, and to Scotland Health Care System for providing breakfast and the venue. Scotland County Schools is grateful to be part of the ongoing work to support student success and strengthen our community’s future.

October is National Principal Appreciation Month, and Scotland County Schools is proud to celebrate the caring, dedicated leaders who pour so much of themselves into our schools each day!

Our principals wear many hats—leader, encourager, problem-solver, cheerleader, and sometimes even a shoulder to lean on. From greeting students in the morning to supporting teachers and connecting with families, they help make our schools places where children feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

Behind every school are countless moments of kindness, tough decisions made with care, and extra hours spent helping students and staff succeed. To our principals: we see your hard work, appreciate your heart, and thank you for all you do for our school communities!

Join us in showing our principals some love! Leave a message of appreciation for your principal in the comments. ⬇️
