Fishing is excellent year-round, and large-mouth bass are plentiful. Situated on a wooded peninsula, Tugaloo’s cottages and most campsites offer spectacular views of 55,590-acre Lake Hartwell in every direction. Some cottages even have private boat docks for overnight guests. Tent campers can choose between the developed campground or primitive sites located a short walk from the parking area. During summer, the lake is a popular destination for swimming, water skiing, sailing and boating. Both the Sassafras and Muscadine hiking trails wind through oak, walnut, mulberry and cherry trees. Tugaloo State Park boasts a six-lane mega ramp used for large fishing tournaments and easy lake access. The name β€œTugaloo” comes from an Indian name for the river which once flowed freely prior to the construction of Hartwell Dam.

🐒🐍 Reptile Roundup was a ssssuccess! 🦎

A big thank-you to everyone who joined us this morning! We learned about different types of reptiles, played a matching game with what reptiles eat, went on a turtle egg hunt, met Jules the corn snake, and made a spiral snake craft to take home! πŸ’š

An interesting sight along the Tugaloo shoreline! πŸͺ¨πŸŒŠ

With Lake Hartwell's unusually low water levels, these creative rock stacks have appeared along the exposed shoreline.

While they certainly make for an interesting photograph, we encourage visitors to practice Leave No Trace principles by leaving rocks and other natural features undisturbed to help preserve our shoreline habitats. 🌿

🚨 ATTENTION, ATTENTION! Tugaloo State Park has a NEW Junior Ranger! 🚨🌲

Meet Cooper, age 6, who has been working hard on his Junior Ranger workbook over multiple visits to the park! Along the way, he joined Naturalist Audrey in making a pinecone birdfeeder and going for a Mushroom Hike. πŸ„πŸ¦

This afternoon, Cooper’s hard work paid off! Audrey had the honor of officially swearing him in as a Junior Ranger and presenting him with his very own badge. And just look at that smile! πŸ₯ΉπŸ… We’re so proud of you, Cooper!

🌿 Want to become a Junior Ranger, too? Our Junior Ranger program is FREE and open to all park guests!

Simply stop by the Visitor Center between 8-5 to pick up your Junior Ranger booklet, work through the fun activity pages, and bring your completed booklet back to the Visitor Center. You’ll earn your very own badge and be officially sworn in by a Ranger!

Come explore, learn about nature, and join the Junior Ranger team at Tugaloo State Park! πŸ’š
