Shortly after the City of Lawrence was incorporated in 1847, one of the first measures undertaken was the naming of a school committee that was entrusted with establishing a school system. Early in 1848, the Lawrence School Committee, after consulting with Horace Mann and other distinguished educators of that day, adopted a system of free public education for the primary grades through high school

Students at the Rollins School in Mrs. Narly Soto’s art class recognized the beginning of Black History Month. Last week, they learned about Alma Thomas, the first Black woman to have her artwork featured at the White House. Students made their own art pieces inspired by her style and message. In Soto’s words, “[Her] story reminds us that anyone—at any age—can be an artist.”

Varsity Girls Basketball got inspired and created a Cancer Awareness Night before a recent game. Players from both the Lancers and Methuen Rangers wore pink in support.

Congratulations to our Artist of the Week, Eliana La Bombard Lopez! This creative Oliver Elementary student made the Winter Landscape in oil pastels. Beautiful view of the mountains with birds flying over. Great job!
