Legacy Meats hosted the Lawrence County CEO class last Wednesday. Amanda Brashear talked with the class about why she and her husband Matthew decided to open a store in Bridgeport. Legacy Meats started out on a gravel road near Sumner. Customers loved to purchase their meat there but the distance and gravel road were an issue for some. Just days before Todd Gray owner of Gray’s Restaurant was to tear down the building he and the Brashears struck a deal and Legacy Meats began their move to Bridgeport. Legacy Meats provides top cuts of meat and other items so families can enjoy fresh meat for their tables. The Brashears have made a few changes along the way. They have decided not to be open every day of the week. They realized that their business would be more profitable to be open a few less days. The days they are open are their busiest and most profitable. We are so thankful Legacy Meats decided to work with Todd and open their business in the old Gray’s restaurant. Thank you for a great visit.

Thursday the Lawrence County CEO class visited Dorney’s Pumpkin Patch. Kim Dorney talked to the class about some of the challenges she encountered this season. Due to the heavy rains she had to replant one of her patches three times. Due to this she was not able to replant some of her varieties. This also had an impact on her profits and supply of pumpkins. Kim loves having the pumpkin patch. Being a retired teacher she loves seeing the kids enjoying the many activities at the patch and many are able to take a pumpkin home. It is great to have this small business in our community. Thank you for a great visit.

Running the Lawrence County Health Department (LCHD) is a big job. There are several different services provided and agencies housed there. The Lawrence County CEO class visited LCHD and heard about just what it takes to manage this facility. Amy Marley, Administrator and Liz Weber, Human Resources Director spoke to the class about the many services that are housed at LCHD. They also shared the importance of trying to bring these services together to better serve Lawrence County. Managing personnel and being fiscally responsible are very important to running a business. We enjoyed hearing about LCHD and its’ services and taking a tour of the facility. Thank you for Lawrence County Health Department for having us.
