Unfortunately, we have a bus driver shortage that will impact the Squirrel Bus bus route next week on Tuesday September 8th, Wednesday September 9th, and Thursday September 10th.

Before school & after school trips for the Squirrel bus will be canceled Tuesday September 8th, Wednesday September 9th, and Thursday September 10th. Unfortunately families have to make alternative plans to make sure their child is transported to and from school. Families of Elementary students please communicate with your child’s teacher about how your child will be transported home.

If your family has significant circumstances and you cannot find an alternate transportation option, you can contact our Transportation Director Jim Turner / [email protected] and we can do our best to try and help.

We do apologize for the inconvenience of this change, we are in the process of adding a bus driver and seeking sub bus drivers in an effort to minimize the future impact felt by our families. If you know of anyone who may be interested in learning to be a Bus Driver, please have them email [email protected].

The Lawton Community Schools Operating Millage was overwhelmingly supported by voters, continuing to show the wonderful support that our community has for our students, staff, and schools. This approval by the voters allows us to maintain important programs and resources that our students depend on as we continue to strengthen and improve their educational experience.

We want to share our sincere thanks and appreciation for your ongoing belief in Lawton Community Schools and your love for Lawton.

Reminder:
On August 4th 2026, voters of the Lawton Community School District will be asked to consider replacing the expiring, non-homestead operating millage, which the district has levied for many years. The proposal will allow Lawton Community Schools to continue to levy the statutory rate of not to exceed 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law.

The infographic and frequently asked questions should help you understand more about the operating millage proposal on the upcoming ballot.

If you have any questions please contact Superintendent Ben Bandfield at [email protected] or 269.624.7901

Thank you for your continued support of Lawton Community Schools.
