📢Cadet spotlight📢
CDT Montoya is an MS4 has been an inspiration to the program with his charisma and willingness to learn! We’re super proud of where he is now and can’t wait to see what he does later on in his career
1). What’s your “why” for joining the program?
“I joined ROTC because I wanted to challenge myself and become a better leader. Moving away from home and going to college on my own taught me how important discipline and independence are. ROTC gave me an opportunity to push myself even further while working toward becoming an Army officer. I want to be the kind of leader Soldiers can trust and know will take care of them.”
What does your life look like outside of uniform?
“Outside of ROTC, I’m a Business Administration student at Cameron University. A lot of my time goes toward school, work, working out, and spending time with friends. I also grew up in Colombia, so staying connected with my family and where I came from is important to me. When I have free time, I like getting out, driving around, trying new things, and just enjoying life in general.”
Who do you aspire to be like?
“I don’t necessarily aspire to be exactly like one specific person. I want to take qualities from the people I respect—discipline, humility, confidence, and the ability to take care of others—and build my own leadership style. Ultimately, I want to become the type of officer I would want to have leading me.”
Favorite quote, and why does it resonate with you?
“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” -Winston Churchill.
“I like this quote because my journey hasn’t always been perfect. I’ve had setbacks, made mistakes, and had moments where I had to improve, but I’ve learned that what matters is how you respond afterward. Whether it’s ROTC, school, fitness, or life in general, I try to keep moving forward and become better from every experience.”
