On Wednesday, October 14th, at approximately 7:10 p.m., the Le Sueur Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment at the intersection of Highway 169 and Highway 93, just outside of Le Sueur.
Upon arrival, crews encountered a fertilizer truck that had T-boned a pickup. The driver of the pickup was trapped inside the vehicle but was conscious and breathing. Crews immediately began patient care and extrication efforts.
As crews worked to free the driver, it was determined that his leg had been impaled by the fertilizer truck’s tow hook. Due to the complexity of the situation, extrication efforts lasted approximately three hours.
The driver was ultimately freed and airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) with injuries reported to be non-life-threatening.
This was an extremely challenging incident that required an incredible amount of coordination, teamwork, and dedication from everyone on scene.
