The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), in consultation with the City of Lebanon, will convert the intersection of KY 55 and KY 49 in Marion County to an all-way stop beginning Monday, October 5.

As part of the transition, the existing traffic signal will flash red in all directions for a period of time to help motorists adjust to the new traffic pattern before the signal is removed.

Stop signs and message boards will also be placed in advance of the intersection to alert approaching motorists of the change.

Recent traffic counts and traffic movement evaluations support the intersection adjustment. As conditions at intersections warrant, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers study traffic flow and other factors to determine the most appropriate traffic control method.

Motorists traveling through the area are encouraged to use caution, remain alert for the new signage and be prepared to stop at the intersection.

For more information about intersection considerations used by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, visit the KYTC Safe Roads Solutions webpage.

When it comes to preparedness, don’t just be wise; be SAMwise.

Someday, an emergency might strike. Earthquake. Flood. Wildfire. Thirteen-month round trip journey from your place of residence to a giant volcano 1,800 miles away to destroy a powerful, malevolent artifact sought by an immortal dark lord and ultimately save all of humanity. (You never know.)

We'rein the middle of Tolkien Week, and September is National Preparedness Month. And you know us. We like nothing better than to take advantage of the thinnest strand connecting two things that are mostly unrelated so we can talk to you about something important that we want you to know.

ARE they really that unrelated, though, when you think about it?

Anyway… You need to be ready for a disaster. And Samwise Gamgee is the ultimate role model here. Case in point: “Rope! I knew I’d want it, if I hadn’t got it!”

You don’t want to be wantin’.

It’s critical to always be prepared for an emergency or disaster scenario. That includes having an emergency plan, being “two weeks ready,” and building an emergency go bag (or kit).

(Maybe just don’t cook up some nice, crispy bacon when there’s a risk that enemies might spot the smoke from your fire and end up stabbing your best friend.)

🚨 WE HAVE NEW TORNADO SIRENS! 🚨

This week, 12 new outdoor warning sirens will begin going up across Marion County!

This project is the culmination of more than a year of work by Marion County Emergency Management Agency to strengthen the county’s public alert and warning capabilities and bring outdoor warning sirens back to our community. The installation of these sirens marks an exciting milestone and an important investment in public safety.

A huge thank you goes to the Marion County Fiscal Court, the City of Lebanon, and the City of Loretto for their support, partnership, and commitment to making this project possible.

Outdoor warning sirens are an important layer of a comprehensive public warning system. They are designed primarily to alert people who are outdoors that dangerous conditions may be approaching and that they should seek additional information and take appropriate action.

⚠️ A quick heads-up for this week: As the new sirens are installed, you may hear sirens being tested intermittently throughout Marion County. These tests are necessary to make sure each siren is functioning properly before it is placed into service.

After more than a year of planning, coordination, site selection, funding, and behind-the-scenes work, we are incredibly excited to see this project become a reality.
