🍎🌾 Last week, Russell County 4-H celebrated Virginia Farm to School Week and the Crunch Heard ’Round the Commonwealth with students at The Learning Center at Temple Hill - TLC Lions!

Our youth enjoyed taste-testing different varieties of Virginia-grown apples, exploring apples with their five senses, and learning fun facts about one of our favorite fall fruits! 🍏🍎

Through this fun, hands-on experience, students made connections to Virginia agriculture and learned more about where their food comes from. 🌱

We loved celebrating Virginia agriculture with our friends at The Learning Center, one crunchy bite at a time! ❤️🍀

🌶️ 4-H In-A-Bag Cooking Program: Homemade Chili! 🌶️

Russell County families are invited to participate in our next 4-H In-A-Bag Cooking Program featuring a delicious homemade chili recipe!

This hands-on activity helps youth build confidence in the kitchen while learning important cooking skills such as measuring, mixing, following directions, and kitchen safety. Participants will receive a kit with the ingredients needed to make chili at home and can customize their recipe by adding their favorite meat or protein.

✅ Open to all Russell County families
✅ All ingredients provided
✅ You do not have to be enrolled in 4-H to participate
✅ Free to participate

Our 4-H’ers put their sewing skills to work creating their very own trick-or-treat bags just in time for Halloween! 🍬👜 We loved seeing their creativity shine as they learned new skills and made something they can use for all their Halloween goodies!

Meet two of Russell County 4-H’s newest Virginia 4-H Healthy Living Ambassadors — Ali Beck and Hoyt Statzer! 🌟💚🍀

Ali and Hoyt applied and interviewed for this leadership role because of their passion for healthy living and helping others lead their best lives! As Virginia 4-H Healthy Living Ambassadors, they’ll meet monthly with fellow ambassadors from across the state to plan community events, promote wellness initiatives, and serve as youth advocates for healthy lifestyles both locally and statewide.

🎉 Congratulations to Ali and Hoyt on being selected as Virginia 4-H Healthy Living Ambassadors for the 2026–2027 year! We are so proud of these 4-H members and can’t wait to see all the amazing things they accomplish! 💚🍀

🍎🌾 Last week, Russell County 4-H celebrated Virginia Farm to School Week and the Crunch Heard ’Round the Commonwealth with students across Russell County!

Our youth enjoyed taste-testing different varieties of Virginia-grown apples, exploring apples using their five senses, and learning fun facts about one of our favorite fall fruits! 🍏🍎

We’re proud to have reached over 439 youth through this fun, hands-on learning experience! Experiences like these help youth make connections to Virginia agriculture while discovering where their food comes from.

A big thank you to our schools and students for helping us celebrate Virginia agriculture, one crunchy bite at a time! ❤️

Huge thanks to Stuart Land and Cattle Company for hosting an incredible evening farm tour! We loved exploring the historic Clifton Farm (Kent's Ridge) and learning all about their "Virtual Fencing" technology. Another major highlight was seeing the farm's brand-new solar watering facility in action. Thanks to Dr. John Currin from the Virginia/Maryland Regional College of Vet Medicine for winter feeding and cow management tips. 🚜☀️🌾
